Banff’s Gondola is one of the most iconic things you can do in Canada, and one of my favourite things about it is that it never looks like the same. I’ve gone up in all the seasons and it’s always a completely different experience. The views from atop Sulphur Mountain are the definition of incredible and I really could (and have) spent an entire up there just exploring the area. Of course it helps that the new centre on top of the mountain has been completely renovated and now comes with some really great restaurants, a theatre and lots of places to just sit back and take in the view. Be sure to check out the rooftop viewing deck!
The gondola stays open until 8:30pm on Friday and Saturdays, which means since our sun sets in the winter around 4:30pm, if you time it right you can get some stunning sun set views and then stick around for the stars. That was our plan when we recently did the Banff gondola, but the clouds had another plan so we didn’t see any stars, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the views and a fantastic dinner at the Sky Bistro!
The gondola is closed until January 20th for winter maintenance, but after that, grab your camera and check out the gondola at night. If I can’t couldn’t get amazing night shots, maybe you can!
