When you think of gargantuan movies like this weekend’s The Dark Knight Rises, it’s hard to imagine any movie ever making enough of impression that you’ll remember it when (or if) it ever makes it to theatres. It’s even more of an uphill climb for Canadian productions, that often deal with the negative impression they get, just for “being Canadian.”

But the trailers for two different Canuck-produced films have recently caught my attention. No, not because they are Canadian and this is a Canadian entertainment blog, but because they both look funny, original and have been able to get some great casts, from both sides of the border.

Take a look!

Dead Before Dawn
Billed as a movie featuring zemon’s (Half Zombie. Half Demon. All Zemon!) in 3D, the flick looks like a bloody mess, and I mean that in a good way.  The cast features Christopher Lloyd, Kevin McDonald, Devon Bostick, Brandon Jay McLaren,  Brittany Allen, April Mullen and Tim Doiron. There’s probably nothing hotter right now in scary movies, than zombies, so to add the demon part and 3D, is a fantastic twist. Can’t wait to see this movie when it likely makes the festival rounds later this year!

Lloyd the Conqueror is a movie that was filmed right here in Calgary (look for the skyline at the 1:00 mark) and is packed with a ton of funny people, which only adds to the hilarious premise of the film that takes a look inside the world of LARPING. In case you don’t know what LARPING is, it stands for Live Action Role Playing. It’s like Dungeons and Dragons, but in real life. The cast features Brian Posehn (Sarah Silverman Show), Mike Smith (BUBBLES), Evan Willams (Degrassi) and Harland Williams (any movie about pot) and is expected to hit theatres January 2013.
