Calgary’s participation in Earth Hour has often been, um, let’s call it controversial.  (I also would have accepted lackadaisical.)

But, if you’re looking for a fun way to celebrate the worldwide event, here are three events that will have partying in the dark.

Countdown to Earth Hour
Bridgeland / Riverside Community Centre
917 Centre Avenue NE
The event wants Calgarians to take a stand, by sitting in the dark.
The event will feature a solar light display, as well as a drumming session (drums provided or bring your own.) You can also enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or coffee.Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or coffee (bring your own mug or buy an EcoLiving mug)

OPYQCVATCHGI-largeEarth Hour Concert with Jordan Doell
Good Earth Coffeehouse and Bakery, Aspen Landing
The concert featuring country artist Jordan Doell is free and during Earth Hour, the room will be lit by candles.

City of Calgary
If you’re looking forward to doing something outside, why not go for a walk and check out all the buildings that will be going dark during Earth Hour. The city of Calgary has announced that many of its buildings will be turning off their lights. Including: Calgary Municipal Complex, Calgary Public Building, Whitehorn Multi-Services Centre, the Langevin Bridge, 4th Street Underpass, Riverwalk, the Public Art LED Box near the 5th Ave Flyover, Manchester Building E, Ad Valorem Place, and Fire Halls.

Additionally, The Calgary Tower will also be going dark, which will be cool to see.  It’s not very often that you go for a walk and hope to see nothing at all.

Earth Hour takes place on Saturday, March 23rd.  To participate, all you have to do is turn off your lights and unplug electronics, appliances and chargers for one hour, starting at 8:30 p.m.

  1. There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.

  2. My brother suggested I may like this web site. He was once totally right. This submit truly made my day. You can not consider simply how so much time I had spent for this information! Thank you!|

  3. An interesting discussion is worth comment. I think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
