Did you know that on Saturday night the Rosies were handed out.
Never heard of them?Â
The Rosies are the awards given out at the Annual Alberta Film & Television Awards!
Still nothing?
They celebrate excellence and outstanding achievement in Albertan film, television and new media and they were handed out yesterday at a gala industry event held at the Northlands Agricom in Edmonton. Â One that I was interestingly enough not invited to.
This year the production taking the most number of Rosies was the National Film Board of Canada’s “The Real Place,” which garnered 6 awards, including Best Short. What I like about these awards are that a lot of the categories are divided up between the Under and Over 30 age group. Â This means that rising up and comers don’t necessarily have to compete against people who probably remember when Alberta’s first movie was filmed.
There were over 52 awards given out and some of the highlights are below!
BEST TV COMMERCIAL Â Rexall Edmonton Indy Â
BEST DOCUMENTARY SERIES Â Fish Out of Water Â
BEST NEWS INFORMATION SERIES Â Heavy Metal Crime Â

I want to give a very big shout out to Jill Belland!  Mostly because she is awesome and I’m so happy she won for Best TV Host.  Jill and I have worked together before on  Breakfast Television (I’m on Tuesday morning!) and anyone that gets up at 3:00am and is as chipper as she is, deserves major props!  Check out a clip of Jill and I to see her awesomeness!Â
So proud of Jill for winning! And congrats to all the winners! Â Film and Television is one of the hardest industries and these people are making it work! Â Congrats!
