Nothing makes me happier than when I see that Canadian networks are busy working on home grown Canadian comedies.  We all know we’re capable of making funny shows, but we often struggle to find a vehicle that gets the support that’s needed to become the next Corner Gas or Trailer Park Boys.

Well this coming TV season, all of that could change. A few months ago, Citytv announced that they were busy developing two different comedies, Package Deal and Seed, that will be produced in Vancouver and Halifax respectively.  Now comes word that CTV is also working on two new and original shows that will  soon be on our television sets…or iPads, or however you watch TV nowadays!

Satisfaction is an ensemble comedy about a twenty-something couple that invite their best friend to live with them to help pay the rent. It sounds timely, funny and most importantly, it should skew young, which is exactly what CTV needs if it hopes to reign in the younger demo. Satisfaction is produced by the Halifax company, DHX Media, which means that between this show and the one on Citytv, it’ll be a busy few months for Haligonians looking to work in the entertainment industry.

CTV’s second series is called Spun Out and it’s workplace comedy about a disgraced writer, who joins a top PR firm that balances spinning other people’s problems, along with their own.   I can’t think of a recent comedy about the PR world and judging from the variety of press releases I get, this series could be on TV for decades!

There’s no word yet on when these series will see the light of day, but CTV tends to save their Canadian products for late spring or summer, but hopefully we’ll see both of these comedies sooner, rather than later.
