Calgary is known for lots of different things: cowboys, Stampede and our proximately to the Rocky Mountains, probably most notably. One thing Calgary is not particularly known for is surfing…until this summer.
Thanks in part to last year’s flood, a permanent wave has set up shop along the banks of the Bow River, right beside the 10th street bridge. I had been hearing about it all summer, but only today got a chance to watch people hang ten and it looks like so much fun!
One of the brave surfers told me that you can rent a wet suit and board from Rocky Mountain River Surfing.
I didn’t try it out, because there was too many people watching, but I honestly would love to give a go sometime. I find more and more people are finding different uses for the Bow River and surfing just seems like the next inevitable step!
Here’s some video and photos of the brave souls from today. Â Have you done it yet this summer? Â How hard is it? Remember, it’s me we’re talking about!
You’ve really captured all the eseltniass in this subject area, haven’t you?
Rocky Mountain River Surfing ALOHA — great to see you doing these lessons. Keep spreading this positive vibe among the youngsters 😉
