Remember when I almost convinced CBC to get someone to write a song about my couch?
Ahhh good times.
Luckily (for the singer/songwriter) my couch didn’t make it to the finals of the Great Canadian Song Quest, but a lot of great singers and locations did.
I feel like I’ve explained the Great Canada Song Quest like a million times, so I’m not going to do it again. But basically 13 musical artists from across the country won the opportunity to write songs about each province and territory. Together they formed the GCSQ playlist, that has been available for download since December. It’s absolutely fantastic. Some of the artitsts included in the playlist include Chantal Kreviazuk, Hawksley Workman, Joel Plaskett, Martha Wainwright, Hey Rosetta! and Dave Myles.
Around the same time, they performed a Great Canadian Song Quest concert at Toronto’s Glen Gould Studio and after weeks of waiting, we are finally going to be able to listen to it.
The show airs in its entirety on tonight on CANADA LIVE at 7 p.m. (7:30 NT) on CBC Radio 2. If you’re not into the radio thing, on Friday, you can watch it via webcast at www.cbc.ca/songquest
