Wow, I did not see this one coming.

This week, rockers Billy Talent came out on top of the Canadian sales chart with their new album “Dead Silence.” I don’t mean that as a slight to the band, I mean it as a complement, because for a band that’s been been rocking out since 1993, it’s amazing to see them still pulling in stellar numbers.According to Nielsen Soundscan, the album grabbed the #1 spot by selling 17,000 units. Coming in at #2 was The xx, with an album that sounds exactly the same as their first one and Dave Matthew’s Band took the third slot.

Billy Talent has always held a special place in my heart. I’m sure they don’t remember, but when I was in University, I served the band when they popped into a small restaurant called the Lobster Hut in Fredericton. Against their better judgement, I made them wear lobster bids and we got a long famously. A few months later, a really nice couple came into the restaurant saying that their son said they just had to eat there. Turn outs, their son was Billy Talent’s Jonathan Gallant. I never forgot that.

Amazing memories aside, the band’s #1 ranking likely won’t last long, thanks to this week’s releases that include new albums from P!nk and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Did you buy any new music this week?
