Throughout the day on Tuesday, I kept hearing about the passing of Kate McGarrigle. She was a Canadian folk-music legend, so obviously I felt bad for never having heard of her. I soon found out that she was also the mother of the famed Rufus and Martha Wainwright.

After doing some research, turns out that, even if you are like me and haven’t heard the name Kate McGarrigle, you have definitely heard her voice.

For me, the log jammers waltz was one of the most memorable things from my childhood. But did you know that it is McGarrigle and her sister Anna that are the ones singing in short film for the National Film Board?

Watch this video and feel countless childhood memories come rushing back.

For me, this makes her an iconic Canadian.
