Going to Prom is one of those that celebrations that almost every high school student gets to experience.  It’s so iconic that almost every teen movie is about going to a prom of some sort. But for many LGTBQ people, going to prom with their date of choice, wasn’t an option.

And luckily for them, there’s a new event called Re-Prom.

Re-Prom is a gala event for LGBTQ2S+ adults and allies to re-experience prom on their own terms and it’s being presented by Calgary’s Centre for Sexuality.   It’s been a while since I graced the hallways of my high school, but I understand that in most schools, it’s becoming more and more acceptable to go with the partner of your choosing, which is truly fantastic. But if you didn’t get a chance to, this is your chance to celebrate prom on your terms, and even better, you’re old enough to just buy your own drinks.

Now, I was lucky because I actually loved my prom date.  Her name was Vanessa and we had a blast. In fact, we’re still great friends, and over the holidays, I got the chance to hang out with my original prom date, and my “new” prom date.

The first ever Re-Prom takes place on February 29th, at the Hyatt Regency.  And it will feature a delicious dinner, live entertainment, signature cocktails, photo booths, candy buffet, DJ and dancing.

And tickets are on sale right now!

I’m excited team up with the Centre for Sexuality and do a fun contest for anyone heading to Re-Prom. Share your Promposal! (…or your RePromposal?) and you’ll have a chance to win.

All you have to do is share a video or photos of your Promposal and be sure to tag on Twitter or Instagram @YYCsexualhealth and @mikesbloggity and #repromposal2020. Just for posting, you’ll get 20% off your ticket price! You’ll also be entered to win a great ReProm Package – tickets, hair appt, limo, and a night at the Hyatt!
