This weekend, 17th Avenue businesses are teaming up to create a temporary pop-up ‘Backyard’ park and ‘Backyard Alley Party’!

By now, you’ve probably noticed that 17th Avenue is undergoing a lot of construction. Three years worth of construction. But a few small detours shouldn’t get in the way of you continuing to enjoy one of the city’s best areas!

For the next two weekends, the alley north of 17th Avenue’s 400 block will be completely transformed into a pop-up public space called The Backyard. It’s a collaboration between 17th Avenue businesses, the 17th Avenue BIA, the Beltline Neighrbourhood Association, and the City of Calgary. This will give Calgarians the chance to enjoy this new temporary public space and soak up the last moments of summer (it’s 17 degrees this Sunday).

The weekends will bring together Calgarians for patios, an open air movie theatre, a live music stage, artisan market, pop up artwork and so much more. Of course, if you happen to support the businesses on 17th Avenue during the reconstruction, than that’s icing on the cake!

The Backyard Alley Party will feature new patios behind Local 510, The Living Room, Ox Bar De Tapas, The Ship & Anchor, Ricardo’s and National.
