It’s the album that has been 5 years in the making and I couldn’t be more excited that Serena Ryder‘s Harmony is finally out today. I’ve streamed it a couple of times in the past week and the record is pact with incredibly catchy and infectious songs.

Serena’s voice is one of my favourite and most unique in Canadian music right now. I love that this album continues to highlight the power and strength that comes from both her vocals and songwriting. She proved this already in 2008, when her album Is It O.K won the Juno Award for Adult Alternative Album of the Year.

I know this is weird, but I’m constantly worried about playing great music when I have friends over for board game or dinner nights. I’ve already made sure to add Harmony to my list of friend party approved music. It’s easy to enjoy, but hearty enough that it won’t depress the room.

Welcome back Serena, please don’t ever leave us hanging that long again, mmmkay?
