Wow! Â That’s basically all I can say. But since no one wants to read a one word blog post, I guess I should say more.
With 2015 safely behind us, Mike’s Bloggity Blog is celebrating something I didn’t ever think was possible.  I’ve done the calculations (Thanks, Google Analytics) and I can now officially say that more than one million different people visited the blog in 2015!!  I include the word ‘different’ so that you don’t think I mean that my mom visited the blog one million times. I say the word ‘different’ because it means that one million different people around the world took some time to see what was happening on Mike’s Bloggity Blog last year.
I can keep typing it, but I don’t think I’ll ever actually believe it! I’m definitely obligated to dole out more than a million thank yous, which is definitely the plan.
The milestone is both a professional and a personal one for me.  Professional because Mike’s Bloggity Blog is now my full time job, and it has been for more than two years.  That milestone tells me to keep at it. Which, when writing is your profession, you need to tell yourself every now and then.  And personally, the milestone is almost too much for me to really comprehend.  The blog turns ten years old in 2016 (another milestone I can’t really believe), and I can tell you that I love writing it more than ever.  I’ll be the first to admit to say that sometimes I go back and read the more than 4,000 blog posts. Mike’s Bloggity Blog is really a big year book of my life, my loves and my travels. I feel incredible lucky to have it. Which is why that even if the blog ever stops being my job, I know I’ll never stop writing it. Writing is in my bones, my DNA. If I don’t write, I get antsy. I feel weird. Which is why I write it. That’s what I tell every single person that tells me they too want to start a blog.  If you like you write, then you’ll like to blog. Start by writing something you love, the rest will hopefully work itself out.
Now, I’ll be honest, I don’t love talking about blog numbers, but it’s part of “the biz.” Â Movies report box office gross, TV networks tout ratings, as do radio stations. And blogs are no different. But I won’t be doing it all the time, because that’s really only interesting to blogging nerds like me. But this one was a big one, so I hope you don’t mind that I shared!
So here we are 2016. Â I’m not sure what this year will bring, but I’m so excited to find out. I hope it includes more travels, amazing stories and yes, hopefully another million readers. But even if there’s just one (hi mom!), I appreciate that you swung by. Whether it’s once or a million times. I see you and I appreciate it. Â So here’s to an amazing year. Ready, set, go!
