It’s the time of year where we are all thinking about money.  If you’re like me, you’re probably wishing you had more so you get the gifts that you really want for your friends and family.  But just like saying Merry Christmas seems inappropriate, now so does buying gifts at all.  It seems that everyone wants us to have a charitable Christmas, which I think is totally great, but sometimes it’s just fun to buy gifts for people, especially the kids in your life.

So it’s this struggle between charity and material gifts that I wanted to write about in today’s Metro column. How much should we be forced to give to charities and if we don’t give anything, does that make us a Scrooge?
