Growing up in the maritimes, I always knew it was the greatest place on earth. I mean, what’s not to love, McLobsters, Donairs, The Rankin Family, Roch Voisine, oh and the friendly people, but come on, the music and the food are world class, and now I have proof!
Lonely Planet has released its Top Ten Places to visit in 2012 and my home-region of the Maritimes has made the Top Ten!
New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI came in 7th place on the list of what is probably considered the world’s top travel book…at least in my eyes. And for those who think I forgot the Newfoundland, I was always told that they are a part of Atlantic Canada, not the Maritimes. Their words people, not mine.
The Top 3 were: coastal Wales in the number 1 spot. Even though they presumed the end of the world next year, The Mayan Route is No. 2. And Kenya took number 3.
What’s even more impressive is that the Maritimes are the only selection in all of Canada and the USA to make the Top Ten! Seriously, out of all the cool places and only the Maritimes were chosen? This makes my heart warm and even though I was home only a few weeks ago, this makes me want to get home ASAP and enjoy, well enjoy the aforementioned donairs and Rankin Family.
Congrats!
