The last couple of weeks have been a bit insane. Between The Social Summit, getting Calgary By Bike ready for the holidays and being the Calgary rep for Shop the ‘Hood, every minute of the past few weeks has been full of fun and exciting stuff.  And things are just getting started.

Later this week, I’m off to Europe to explore the Christmas markets with Viking Cruise and, even though I honestly didn’t know much about Christmas markets before this trip was booked, the look on people’s faces when I tell them, tells me that I’m in for a treat!

To get to Europe, I’ll be taking my very first KLM flight. I know it’s weird to be excited to be flying with an airline for the first time, but ever since I got the ticket, I’ve been looking forward to it. When I was a kid, my parents flew to Holland and they brought be back a small KLM toy. As kids, there’s no possible way for you to remember every single toy you got or who gave it to you, but for some reason, this one particular moment of my parents coming home from Europe and giving me this small plane has always been in my head. I must have been six or seven.

KLM flights here in Alberta are relatively new, so I’m excited that we’ll be taking off right from Calgary.  I’m not sure what it is about the airline that has me excited, but I think it probably has something to do with their innovation on the customer experience. It seems like they want you to both relax and have fun. Take for example their new flight safely film featuring delftware animation.

It features more than 1,000 tiles, specially drawn, animated and painted with the utmost precision for this specific purpose. The entire script was first translated into handmade Delftware drawings, which were then painted onto the tiles. Stop-motion video animation was then used to film KLM’s flight safety instructions for passengers, tile by tile.

I’ve seen a few other airlines do some fun inflight safety and I love that direction. When you watch it, turns out there’s actually some useful information in there!

I’ll let you know about the flight, but I bet it’s going to be amazing!
