I don’t talk about it a lot, but sometimes I really love country music. You may have noticed that from my previous post about the Dixie Chicks, but my secret love has always been The Wilkinsons. Yes, the country trio featuring a father and his two kids, each incredibly talented and when they combined, their were like the Power Rangers of country music. That’s a thing, right?
In the late 90s and early 2000s, they had a string of hits including 26 cents, Fly, I Wanna Be That Girl, Fast Car, Jimmy’s got a Girlfriend. Then, after a few years of solo releases and reality shows, the Wilkinsons decided to take a break. I never followed their career super closely, but anytime I heard a song, it always made me smile.
This morning, I found out that Amanda and Tyler have recently regrouped as the Small Town Pistols and I couldn’t be happier. Well, I’m not sure if happy is the right word. Their new single, “Living on the outside†is utterly heartbreaking, but Amanda’s powerful vocals, combined with Tyler’s perfect harmonies are exactly what I loved about them in the first place.
Small Town Pistols are currently during with Dean Brody, ahead of their debut release which comes out on February 19th. I can hardly wait.
This might just be the slippery slope into becoming a full fledged country fan. STP is my country gateway drug.
Great line up. We will be linking to this great article on our site. Keep up the good writing.
