Ever since I first saw it a few years ago, Kinky Boots has been one of my favourite Broadway shows. The music! The message! The costumes! I just can’t get enough. The first time we saw it was in NYC, then I needed to see it again in London, then I was luckily enough to see it here in Calgary. Now, Kinky Boots is kickin’ its way to the city next week for a special one-night performance at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.

Ahead of next week’s tour stop, I got the chance to chat with cast member Jordan Archibald, who plays one of the show’s fabulous Angels about the why the show means so much to him and audiences all around the world.

What do you think makes Kinky Boots a show that audiences all around the world have embraced? Do you ever get a chance to talk to the audience after about it?
I think this show has taken on so well because it is a show that is about people, point blank period. It’s a show about human beings finding themselves and accepting others. It has a tremendous way of taking this message of acceptance and applying it to characters that are so human that anyone in an audience can see themselves in them and can go on that journey with the character. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve cried with audience members at the Stage Door while they tell me their stories of self-acceptance and acceptance of others. People are truly moved by this show and it’s a beautiful thing to watch.

“Do you remember the first time you saw Kinky Boots?”The first time I saw Kinky Boots was on November 17th 2016. It was my first time seeing the show even though the movie and Broadway cast recording had been HUGE parts of my life since 2013.

“What’s been one of your favourite moments of being a part of this cast.”

This cast is a tightly knit family and we all genuinely love each other. My favorite moment would have to be after our opening night in Paducah, Kentucky when all the Angels were just looking at each other with tears in our eyes, feeling so much love and happiness. It’s a feeling I will always remember.

“Do you have a favourite number in the show?”
My favorite number would have to be “Everybody Say Yeah!” It’s a high energy number and everyone is celebrating with each other. Factory workers are dancing with Angels, and everyone is having a BLAST!

“What do you hope people take away from Kinky Boots”
“Kinky Boots” has this marvelous way of changing minds in two and a half hours. The message really gets to people and shows them that at our core we are all human and we should treat each other as such. And that’s something I know for a fact that people do take away from the show and it’s wonderful.
