With the exception of Alanis and Robin Sparkles, Canada isn’t really known for it’s teen pop idols but thanks to youtube, it looks like this country has been secretly harbouring future teen pop stars at least for the next ten years.

In the past 24 hours two Canadian tweens have gotten international attention for the music videos they’ve posted and that attention is from two of the most influential people in the music industry today.

Heather Russell is a 10-year-old Toronto girl who has been posting videos on youtube for the past few months and video of “Every Step of The Way” has already garnered more than 100,000 views, not bad for a young she wrote herself.

Music industry icon Simon Cowell knew that her talent was rare because he’s already signed her to his label. But Simon Cowell was the first to express interest.  Demi Moore got a tweet from her husband Ashton Kutcher about the young singer and Lady Gaga‘s producer was also interested in seeing what she had to offer.

Check out Heather singing, she really is amazing.  My only concern is her age.  There isn’t a great track record for young kids selling CDs, so I’m kinda hoping that Cowell has just signed her to a holding deal, then lets her be a teenage for a few years and hopefully release something by the time she is eighteen.  I don’t think anyone wants another Bianca Ryan on their hands.  Who is Bianca Ryan, you ask?  Exactly.

(Bonus:  While writing this story, I discovered that thanks to Russel’s funny facial movements, it’s a blast to just hit pause randomly.  You’re guaranteed to get a funny frozen frame. )

24 hours ago ten-year-old Maria Aragon posted a video of herself singing Lady Gaga’s Born this way.  Since then, it has been seen world wide with more than 206,000 views.  So how did this happen?  Behold the power of a Lady Gaga tweet, who just a few hours ago tweeted to her 8.2 million followers, “Can’t stop crying watching this. This is why I make music. She is the future” and then linked to Aragon’s music video.

Wow.  Those numbers are staggering.  I wonder how I can get her to link to Mike’s Bloggity Blog.  One time Elisa Cuthbert did but I don’t know if she has the same pull as Gaga…yet.
