We all know elections are important. But did you know that elections can be fun.  No, I don’t mean in the way the super politicos think door-knocking is fun, I mean fun for people like us who like to read, share and tweet about funny stories during an election.

And this Canadian election has certainly been a lot of fun. I mean who would have thought things could get funnier than a Conservative candidate getting caught peeing in a cup, but they sure have!

With a few days left to go in the campaign, here are some of my favourites so far!

Broadbent Institute’s Can’t Wait

This one is probably  my favourite. It comes to us from the Broadbent Institute, which according to their website is “an independent, non-partisan organization championing progressive change through the promotion of democracy, equality, and sustainability and the training of a new generation of leaders.”  Clearly they’re excited to get Harper out…like really, really excited.

Blue Rodeo’s Stealin’ All My Dream

It’s no surprise that Blue Rodeo wanted to get political during this election. And it’s no surprise that they wrote an anti-Harper song. What’s really, really surprising is that the song is actually really catchy. I’ve been humming it all week. I doubt it’ll ever chart, but wouldn’t that be amazing?

Hey Rosetta and Yukon Blonde’s Land You Love

Land You Love – Hey Rosetta! & Yukon Blonde from Phil Maloney on Vimeo.

The same goes for the song featuring Hey Rosetta and Yukon Blonde. I could be biased, Hey Rosetta could sing me my tax forms and I’d be happy. Not to mention that this video, shot separately, but merged perfectly together.

And the one video he wants you to watch:

The ultimate underdog story!

Sure Mulcair and Trudeau are taking on the Harper government, but who’s taking on Harper? Well that job has pretty much fallen on musician Matt Masters, who is running against Harper in his riding on Calgary Heritage. The riding is a like a breeding ground for Conservatives, so it’s no easy task, but so far Masters has been…well…masterful. From clever campaign signs to this now even more clever campaign video which is almost too clever for me to understand. Watch the whole thing, don’t look away. It’s not an easy job taking on the Prime Minister, I’m glad Matt’s up for the challenge!
