Last month I celebrate my second year of working for myself. It’s easily been one of the most fulfilling times of my life. Most of the times fun, other times stressful and yes, even a little lonely, it’s definitely been a fantastic experience.

One of the reasons is that because almost all of my work is done on a computer, I’ve been finding myself wanting to travel more and more. And the balance of work and travel is definitely a bit tricky, but definitely worth it.

One of the ways it’s become easier has been coming up with tips and tricks for using my computer for as many things as possible! Recently, I’ve been using the HP ENVY x360 on my trips and it’s definitely made working away from home a lot easier. (Although nothing will make up for missing my kitty.)

So with that in mind, here are some tips for working on the road!

Put it in your schedule:

It seems like it would be easy, but staying away from home really messes with your schedule, so you have to make sure you leave yourself time for work. If you’re in a really exciting place, it can be even harder.  I try to get up and do any and all work right away. That way I’m not distracted throughout the rest of the day. Some times that means I don’t leave the room until close to noon, but at least my work is done! Windows 10 now includes Virtual Desktops, which work like a multimonitor setup, but without the extra monitor.  Any ways to help me manage time and get out of my room faster are okay by me!

Power:

It’s funny, the most important you need if you’re going to work on the road is power. Remember, your computer is your whole office, so you don’t forget the power cord. You’ll be amazed how often people forget the power cords. My tip?  Go to the front desk of wherever your staying and ask for one.  Chances are if you left yours at home, someone else left there’s at the hotel.

Upload your photos often:

If you’re like me and like to take photos, use your computer to upload the photos as often as possible. Don’t wait to get home because so much could go between the time you take the photos and the time you get around to uploading them. I’ve been enjoying using the HP Envy for organizing, sorting and editing photos. It features a ton of memory and a stunning 1080p Full HD screen, which makes even the worst photo look incredible!

Pack it in:

Even if you get all your work done, there’s a chance that you might need to get caught up during the day. If I think that’s the case, I always bring HP ENVY x360 with me, because it easily converts into a tablet, which means I can answer some quick emails or do fast SKYPE call without having to set up shop in a coffee shop or a quiet alley (which I’ve done before!)

What about you guys, what tips do you have working on the road?
