I’m not a fan of Black Friday and I’m not sure why in recent years Canadians have embraced it so much. What about sleeping outside of big box stores seems appealing? I’d much rather spend my time doing more effective and important things, like shopping local, enjoying local cafes and finding a great deal! And really, there’s no better feeling on earth when you can do all those things at once.

This Saturday (November 28, 2015), Canadians nationwide are encouraged to make a local purchase and take advantage of exclusive event day deals offered by businesses in their neighbourhoods.  The campaign is called Shop the Neighbourhood and I’m thrilled to tell you that I’m collaborating with my friends at Yellow Pages to bring you live coverage of the event on Saturday! Make sure to follow @shopthehood_ca as I take you on a tour of some of Calgary’s best local gems. Download the YP Shopwise app to discover exclusive event deals and don’t forget to go out on Saturday and show some love to local shops in your ‘hood.

What kind of deals can you expect? Here in Calgary, awesome deals from even more awesome local shops will be taking place throughout the city, but here’s a sneak peek!
