When I first heard that they were going to make a movie about Jack Layton, I was a little nervous. It felt so, I don’t know, maybe American, to rush a biopic about someone whose death felt so recent.

As more and more details about the film came out, I began to have more and more faith in the idea of a movie. I actually trust CBC with the content, because if there was anyone that loved Layton, it was the CBC. And then, as the production began to sign on stars like Sook-Yin Lee, Rick Roberts, Erin Karpluk and Wendy Crewson, I decided to let my fears go and just enjoy the movie.

Judging from the short trailer, this movie is going to be a tearjerker, especially for people who looked up to politicians like Jack Layton, like I did.

The movie premieres on CBC this Sunday night and continues the next night.

Are you going to watch?
