Even though I’m not a parent, I’m really loving this whole new trend of “the nice pop star.” (Even though I hope it’s not a trend.)

By “nice pop star” I mean the kind of star that is doing really well, is incredibly talented, yet seems unaffected and maybe nice enough that maybe they’d let you hang out with them. (I’m still dreaming of the day Kelly Clarkson and I are texting buddies.)

Kids these days are looking up to stars like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran and if I was a parent, I’d totally be okay with that.

Yesterday, Sheeran exemplified exactly what I’m talking about when he surprised a fan at the West Edmonton Mall. According to the Edmonton Journal, 13-year-old Sydney Bourbeau was at the mall singing a fundraiser held by her school.

The student was singing the Sheeran’s hit “Thinking Out Loud” when all of a sudden he popped on stage and turned the song into a duet. Can.You.Imagine.

Sheeran was in town for a sold out concert that night. I don’t know if it’s cause I’ve had three cups of coffee today, but man this video has me feeling all sorts of happy feelings. What an amazing moment. And I love how Sydney doesn’t even stop signing, she’s just like “Yup, let’s do this.”

Here’s another angle of the surprise.

What an awesome memory.

Now, how about those Kelly Clarkson texts.
