Since it launched in 2012, car2go has become an integral part of getting in and around Calgary. With its 650 vehicles, 92,000+ registered members, and a 73 sq. kilometer home area, the possibilities of adventure with car2go are endless. And not just for people who don’t want to try living car-free. I’m not sure if you could look it up, but I’m pretty sure I’m one of the first car2go Calgary members and I’ve always found a million uses for the service! If you haven’t tried it before, now’s the time to Hop in and Drive, because for a limited time car2go is offering free memberships (usually $35) and 15 minutes of free driving time. It’s the perfect opportunity to try out the service, especially in some ways you may not have thought of!

Did you know that you can drive car2go to the airport and leave it in a designated parking lot? I’ve been travelling a lot lately and the ability to drive to the airport and not have to worry about sky-high parking rates or bugging my friends to pick me up, has been just so great! Not to mention, that your car2go membership is good for other car2go cities in North America as well, which has completely changed the way I travel. And no offense to cabbies, but after a long and late flight, the last thing I want to do is talk to a stranger. Picking up a car2go from the airport gets me home safely…and quietly.
Sometimes bigger is better!
Depending on what kind of car you have, you might not necessarily have room for your friends, your finds or your furniture. That’s where the four-door car2gos are essential. Not only are they brand new Mercedes Benz’s, there’s plenty of room for all your IKEA purchases.
Keep your car safe and sound!
You’ll especially love using car2go on those nights when you know that you’ll be enjoying a few drinks, meaning that you won’t be able to drive home. Instead of paying for an extra cab to meet your friends, or worse yet, leaving your car in a random parking lot or along the street, start your night off by hopping in a car2go then you can just leave it and focus what’s really important: patio beers. In the morning, you’ll have gotten home safe and your car will be waiting for you.
Save your money for food!
And speaking of parking, save you seen downtown Calgary’s parking rates? They are some of North America’s most expensive, which means that if you want to pop into downtown for a quick meeting or yummy lunch, you’ve already invested much of your RSP just to park your car. Using a car2go makes it easy to park downtown, not pay for parking and spend your money on things that matter, like extra gravy on your poutine.  There’s also a ton of city lots that have special car2go parking spots, so cars are always easy to find.
More fun, less money!
Going to concerts or hockey games is already expensive. Add in the $15 parking rate on the Saddledome grounds and you might as stay home and watch D2: Mighty Ducks for the 100th time. But instead of paying to park, you can just use car2go. Just to the North East of the Saddledome, you’ll find plenty of car2go parking, which makes it easy to get to the big show or game, and also makes it easy to get home quick without being stuck in a massive parking lot!
Never look back!
Calgary is a very outdoorsy city. Whether it’s biking on some of the longest pathways in all of North America, or floating down the Elbow and Bow Rivers, there’s never a shortage of things to do. But what do you do when you’ve done them. Well, you normally have to turn around and go back and get your car. Or in the case of floating down the river, coordinate an elaborate car-sharing system with your friends that somehow allows you to get to the beginning of the river. Or….you can just toss your bike into the back of the four-door car2go, or squeeze your raft into the two-door, drive to the start of your destination and worry about having fun, not about how you’re getting back to your car.
