Calgary Expo returns for its thirteenth year April 25-28, 2019

It’s April in Calgary, and that means it’s Expo season! Once again, for four glorious days later this month, Calgary will welcome more than 100,000 visitors to partake in the costumes, contests and celeb encounters.

It’s a jam-packed four days, so to make sure you get the most from your Expo experience, we’ve rounded up the top must-sees of the weekend.

Celebrities

This year’s Expo boasts an epic lineup of celebrities, including: Rainn Wilson (The Office), Pamela Anderson (Baywatch), David Harbour (Hellboy, Stranger Things), the cast of the Goonies, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley (The Vampire Diaries), and Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville), among others.

Keep an eye out for the schedule to see when your favourite celebrity will be available to sign autographs. If you want a photo with your idol, you’ll want to book in advance! Prices and availability vary.

Cosplay

Cosplay at Expo is bigger than ever this year. The Masters of Cosplay International has landed at Expo for 2019, and amazing cosplayers from around the world will make their North American debuts right here in Calgary. The Master of Cosplay Grand Prix costume competition is back at Expo this year, along with a cosplay red carpet and, for the first time ever, cosplay programming designed to help you take your cosplay craftsmanship to the next level. Special Events

There are about a million things to do during Expo, and almost all of them are included in your Four-Day Pass. The full schedule will be posted here a few weeks before Expo. There are two special events that you’ll absolutely want to buy tickets for in addition to your four-day pass:    

An Evening with the Cast of Back to the Future. It’s about to get heavy, Doc. Michael J Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, James Tolkan and Tom Wilson will appear at Expo for a rare reunion, and there are a variety of special ticket passes to choose from, ranging from a $20 ticket for the special presentation on Friday, April 26, to an incredible $1,120 Backstage Pass that includes a photo op with the cast, an autograph from a member of the cast and a Gold Ticket to the special presentation. Ready the flux capacitor!

Lynda Carter. The original Wonder Woman will appear in Calgary on April 25 for a presentation of her new show “This Life: My Music, My Story”, which will be filled with music, audience Q&A and stories from her life. This is the perfect opportunity to meet the woman who first wore the Bracelets of Submission, and there are a range of ticket packages, ranging from a $20 general admission ticket to a $195 photo op and autograph option. Limited quantities available!

Shopping

With more than 750 retailers and artists setting up shop at Expo this year, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for, whether it’s that elusive comic book, that video game from your youth or the memorabilia that will complete your collection.
