Earlier this year, I got the chance to see one of the most amazing shows I may have ever witnessed. In a time when we’re constantly bombarded with viral videos and Twitter meltdowns, the fact that months later I still feel moved from Ronnie Burkett’s theatre definitely says something to the powerful of this show. For the Calgarians that caught the show in February, they were treated to a poignant, hilarious and visual stunning experience. But the show, as Ronnie’s often do, sold out, leaving many Calgarians robbed of this unbelievable theatrical opportunity!
Well, you’re in luck, because fans of Ronnie Burkett will have a second chance to take in The Daisy Theatre when he returns to Calgary next week! The miraculous marionette show returns to the Big Secret Theatre (Arts Commons) for a three week limited engagement and I implore you not to miss it!
This production will allow audiences to experience Burkett’s genius unleashed; an improvised, unscripted, ripped-from-the-headlines collection of variety acts, impromptu monologues, musical numbers and more with an expanded cast of over 40 marionettes, told by a master of manipulation and characterization living to his full potential for delightful sass and enchanting storytelling. Unlike many of Ronnie’s other productions, The Daisy Theatre operates with no set script, no set run time, and no set cast – meaning no two nights are the same and each audience will impact the tone, length, and direction of the show. The Big Secret Theatre poured libations, conversation, and audience participation.
Marionettes and libations! I honestly can’t think of anything better!
The Daisy Theatre runs from October 27 to November 15th and if you think you should wait for tickets, you’re being foolish! It sold out last time, it will definitely sell out again!
If you’re feeling a bit lucky, I’ve got a four-pack of tickets to giveaway to next week’s show. The tickets are for Saturday November 1st and are valued at $160! The contest closes on October 30th, and to be entered, tell me in the comments what headlines you’d like to see Ronnie’s marionettes talk about during the show!
