Even though it feels like summer, it’s hard to believe that Banff’s Sunshine Village is still open for skiers and snowboarders alike! And this weekend, their last weekend of the season, promises to be their craziest weekend of the year!

This weekend, Sunshine Village Ski Resort will cap off a successful season this Monday, May 18 with the 87th Annual Slush Cup party. The event will see adventurous skiers and snowboarders fly down the Pando Hill in outlandish costumes as they strive to make it across pool of icy, cold slush water.

I’m actually going to be judging the competition asbrave Sunshine Village guests who attempt this annual feat will be up to receive such prestigious accolades including best belly flop, best face plant and biggest splash to name a few.

But the festivities aren’t just on Monday, Sunshine’s long weekend celebrations will also include the final acts in the Snowchella Concert Series, the 7th Annual Bikinis and Boardshorts Ski & Ride in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and the 2nd annual Salomon SlushShine Rail Jam.

Sunshine Village is the only resort in the Alberta Rockies now open for skiing and snowboarding, and will remain wide open until Victoria Day on Monday, May 18.

The resort’s long weekend events include:
May 16 – Salomon SlushShine Rail Jam starting at 11:30 a.m. on Pando Hill.
May 16 – 18 – New Moon hits the Pepsi stage all weekend and Slush Cup Monday.
May 17 – Seventh annual Bikinis and Boardshorts Ski & Ride in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation starts at noon at the top of Strawberry lift.
May 18 – The 87th Annual Slush Cup starts at 1:30 p.m. in the village.

Contest:

To help celebrate this weekend, I’m giving away three lift passes to one lucky winner!  The passes are good for Saturday or Sunday or Monday.  You can decide what day you want to go. But I’m there on Monday if you want to cheer on the Slush Cup with me on Monday!

To enter: In the comments sections, tell me one of your favourite memories of this past winter!

I’ll close the contest at 6:00pm on Friday, May 15th and let you know who won right away!

Good luck!

Winner:  I used a random number generator and Al came out as the winner! Congrats, Al!

  1. My best ski memory this year was taking my son to stay overnight at the lodge and ski two days for his eighth birthday. We had moved here from Ontario in the fall and the big mountain was an exciting change for him from the hills in southern Ontario and western New York where we had been skiing together since he was three.

  2. Absolutely hands down best winter memory was a ski trip with my old coworkers to Lake Louise – epic pow day & shotskis in the chalet apres ski!

The 2 hour busride back to Calgary was phenomenal – catching up with so many great friends & playing ridiculous trivia games for silly prizes. I’d love to invite some of them to Sunshine this weekend!

    xoxo

  3. If by winter – you mean snow, then my best memory is this pay Monday! I have only ever seen snow once and this was this Monday in Calgary. I woke up and fumbled my way to the kitchen of the apartment we are renting to make a pot of coffee. At first I though someone was shaking a feather pillow out on the balcony above! When I realised what was happening I screamed my boyfriend awake (who initially thought something was wrong) and we both sat in the balcony for hours just taking in the beauty of it. We are headed out to Sunshine this weekend, our first time – so those tickets would come in handy big time! 🙂

  4. My best memory was getting out to Sunshine for the first time in 6 years and being able to ski and be pain free in my hip and back!! Just getting in those 5 runs and doing it all without an ounce of pain was amazing…… It was the best day, great snow, I was/am so grateful to be able to ski again it felt amazing!!!
