Of all the charities things I’ve gotten to do over the years, this one might be the most, um, eye-catching.
To celebrate their 40th Anniversary, The Calgary Sexual Health Centre asked local media personalities and a few national celebrities to paint woodies. Yes, a woodie. What’s a woodie exactly you ask? Woodies are wooden phalluses that the organization uses to demonstrate proper condom use in schools.Among those who’ve painted Woodies that are being auctioned off for charity are Rick Mercer (who painted the Stephen Harper woodie), W. Brett Wilson (who painted the rainbow woodie), Sex expert Sue Johanson (here’s her woodie) and Olympic Gold medalist Jon Montgomery (here’s his woodie.)
I was also lucky enough to be asked to paint a woodie, mine is the first one on the left, it’s the Calgary Tower. I know, I know, I’m not really an artist, but it was the best I could do.So here’s what I’m asking, checking out the Calgary Sexual Health Centre’s auction website and bid on a woodie! Just think, you’ll always have an ice breaker for starting conversations, plus you’ll be helping out a worthy organization that has no doubt helped and saved countless Calgarians over the past 40 years.Click here to see all the woodies. The auction closes on Thursday.
