We can probably agree that the best part of Summer is the summer vacation. Remember how when we were kids, we’d always report back on the first day of school about all our great adventures that took place over the summer. It’s probably the first time as kids we really get to brag.
So this week, while I’m enjoying my summer vacation in Atlantic Canada, I’ve asked some cool Canadian celebrities to share their favourite summer vacation stories.
Since I’m in the Maritimes, I thought it’d be good to have a story about my home and native land. One of Showcase’s biggest hits is the series Haven, which this season, will star today’s special guest blogger. When Haven premieres on Showcase on September. 28, keep your eyes out for Kate Kelton, although I have a feeling she’ll be hard to miss.
My favourite summer vacation was actually a job! I’d booked some episodes of Haven, and since guest stars do less of the heavy lifting when it comes to grueling shooting schedules, I had time off this summer to explore Nova Scotia.
I’ve never been out to the Maritimes and couldn’t get over how many lungfuls of clean air awaited me. Going surfing for the first time at a wonderful beach near Liverpool was the absolute highlight of my days off: I’d been to Rio, Waikiki, Negril, Montezuma, Jacko; spent every winter and spring break in Boca Raton; I now LIVE in LA … and yet Halifax is where I go surfing for the first time?
And when castmate Eric Balfour graciously offered to push me into my first wave, instructing me to just get a feel for it instead of trying to stand up, I sailed in from way past the break until that wave BEACHED ME. Looking around, puzzled as to how I’d even gotten there with merely water and a board, head spinning from the sensation of being propelled by that wave … I’ll never forget the feeling for the rest of my life.
All hail Nova Scotia. Word.
Haven returns to Showcase on September 28th.
