Updated: Â Jepsen just released the video for I Really Like You and…it’s really weird. No, not because it stars Tom Hanks and features a Justin Bieber cameo, but because I don’t really understand why it stars Tom Hanks. I feel like there was a joke with no punchline. Or maybe I’m wrong. Watch the video and weigh in.
Original post:
I sometimes feel bad for Carly Rae Jepsen. Â For many of us who loved her on Canadian Idol, she was just a normal Canadian artist putting out songs here and there with moderate success. Than came Call Me Maybe. Â A song so huge, it pretty much broke the internet.
Some fast CMM facts:
-652 million views on YouTube.
-Reached #1 in Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
-MTV named it the Song of the Year for 2012.
-2012’s best selling single.
-13 million single sales.
So how is anyone in their right mind supposed to follow up with that? Â Well, since the song was technically released in 2011, you take a lot coming up with another big song. Â Almost four years in fact. Even before she released her newest single, people were calling Carly Rae Jepsen a one hit wonder, when technically she hadn’t released a new song since that album. Anyway, I sound like a super fan, which I guess I kinda am, but I also just want people to hear Carly Rae Jepsen’s new song and really enjoy it, not just try to compare it to Call Me Maybe.
That being said, her new song “I really like you” is ridiculously catchy. So catchy that before the first listen is even done, you’ll be singing it. I know you will. It’s such a fun song. I’m not sure it’ll reach Call Me Maybe levels, but few songs do.
Have a listen, what do you think?
