Ladies and gentlemen, after 4,200 blog posts, welcome to the first time I’ve ever written about Hockey Night in Canada. But fret not, this blog hasn’t been taken over by TSN, I’m writing about Canada’s biggest sports night for a reason!
CBC Music just announced a new promotion called Hockey Night in Canada Song Quest and they are looking for one Canadian songwriter to write what will likely become Canada’s Next Great Hockey Song. Of course, we know all know Stompin’ Tom Connor’s The Hockey Song, but CBC is looking for a modern-day songwriter to write a song that will be featured in opening of Hockey Night In Canada!
Beyond having their song played through millions of homes every weekend (is that how often hockey is played?) the winner will get to a record a studio version of the song with Nova Scotia rocker Joel Plaskett! After that you’ll be whisked away to Lloydminster, AB, where you’ll perform live at the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada concert!
The contest closes on November 20th and that’s when the songs will be judged by a pretty all-star panel, including Sara Quin of Tegan and Sara, Former NHL Stanley Cup Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Theo Fleury, Joel Plaskett, Chantal Kreviazuk and Former NHL player PJ Stock.Â
The winner being announced on the first day of 2014! If you’re entry makes it to voting, make sure you let me know!
