Anytime I meet someone from Vancouver or Toronto, it’s almost guaranteed that they’ll ask me why I live in Calgary. Not that I blame them necessarily, at first glance, it wouldn’t really make sense for a Canadian entertainment and lifestyle writer to live in Calgary, especially when all the action seems to be happening in Vancouver and Toronto.
The keyword there of course would be “seems.” I think a few years ago, there wasn’t a ton happening in Calgary, but now, after living here for 8 years, it feels like a completely different city than the one that I first moved here. But even though I’m a writer, I can’t always sum up why I love this city so much. Especially when it comes to describing the energy and the feeling that we are on the verge of even bigger things.
My friends at Tourism Calgary, Calgary Economic Development and Calgary Telus Convention Centre, released a new promotional video for the city and honestly, I think it does a way better job at summing up why I live in Calgary than I ever could.
Besides showing off some of my favourite parts of the city, the video features one of my favourite up and coming bands in the city Jocelyn and Lisa. The song featured is called Right Here and it was written by Mike Shields. Click here if you want to download the song for free. (Just click “Watch Here The Video Now” and the window will expand.)
I hope that if you’re not from Calgary, you’ll use this video as motivation to come visit. Or, if you’re from here, you’ll make a point of exploring more of the city, that I’m just now beginning to realize how lucky we are to live in.
The answer of an exrtpe. Good to hear from you.
Nice tune, but I spent much of the time wondering what language they were singing in because I found the lyrics incomprehensible. Maybe it’s just bad sound in the video. The links to the download and lyrics are dead, so I guess I’ll never know what they’re singing.
I’d like to thank you for the efforts you have put
in writing this website. I’m hoping to see the same high-grade blog posts by you later on as well.
In truth, your creative writing abilities has inspired me to get my own, personal website now 😉
Thanks for the great review and honest feedback Mike- Calgary has changed/evolved and doesn’t it feel so great to be part of this awesome energy!
