This Thursday, Kait Kucy and I are bringing back the second annual Calgary Freelancer’s Christmas Party and I couldn’t be more excited.

We did this last year, and did something similar for Stampede and it’s always so much fun.

Our freelancer party idea came out of the fact that when you work for yourself, a small company or maybe you’re a stay-at-home parent or you’re underemployed, you don’t get to have an office Christmas party, so we thought: Why not throw an office party for everyone that doesn’t have an office?

This year’s party takes place this Thursday, December 13th starting at 5:00pm at Last Best Brewery.   Tickets are $25 and with that, you get a drink, food and then Happy Hour specials throughout the party.

We are even doing a Secret Santa.  You don’t have to do it, but if you want, all you have to do is bring a wrapped gift worth $20.  And then you’ll leave with a mysterious gift worth $20.

One of my favourite things about the freelancer parties is that the people there aren’t all from the same industries, so it’s quite different from most networking events, where it might be just the same people you always see. At the Freelancers Parties, what you have in common is that you work for yourself, but people come from a variety of careers, so you have lots to talk about, but also lots to learn from each other.  And I heard from a few different people who went to last year’s actually found some jobs and gigs out of it, because not everyone was vying for the same job.

At the time of me writing this post, we already have 70 signed up, so be sure to grab your ticket and join us this Thursday. It’s going to be a blast!
