As much as I hate when houses get torn down for development, leave it to artists to give 9 houses quite an exit!

Tonight, Wreck City opens its doors in a way that I’ve certainly never seen before.
100+ artists, 9 houses, 3 garages, 1 greenhouse, 9-days of visual art, music and performance…all in houses that are set for demolition.

The houses will feature temporary art, installation, and performance spaces that have been curated by eight different Calgary artists.

photo 2The public is invited to explore WRECK CITY when from tonight until April 27th
Here are the hours:

Friday, April 19th, 7 pm – 11 pm
Open House Hours:
Mon – Thurs: 4 pm – 8 pm
Friday: 7 pm – 11 pm
Saturday: 1 pm – 11 pm
Sunday: 1 pm – 5 pm

Community Reception: April 27th, 1 – 11 pm

I swung by the houses today, which are located between 621 and 823 5th Ave NW,  I didn’t get a chance to go in, I’ll have to wait until tonight, but what I did see was bridges linking the houses, inside/outside slides and lots of cool murals. I almost can’t wait to get inside the houses and explore every nook and cranny.

I love this idea. What a great way to thank these houses for decades are providing warmth and memories!
