You may have recently read about us going shopping for some new stuff from Best Buy for our new house. To understand what we bought, you have to understand our house.

We bought a century old home and renovated it from the studs. By “we”, I mean, a very talented contractor. Since we were basically rebuilding the rooms, we had the choice of what we wanted each room to be.

One of our priorities was to build a room where we could “get away from it all.” Well, I’m not sure if you know this but 100 years ago, they weren’t really building houses to “get away from it all.” So we were left to improvise. Our basement is out of the question, because, well, apparently they cost money to build.

So we decided to go to BestBuy with the intent of using our one guest room as our little nook, but make it still accessible for guests, and at the same time have it ready in case we have a more permanent and tiny guest some day. (Calm down, mom, I said “in case.”)

One of the best things about our BestBuy shopping experience was that it was easy to get our purchases delivered to our home. Here in Calgary, we have a great BestBuy located right on 17th Ave, which makes it a perfect place to walk or bike to and shop. Unfortunately, my bike doesn’t tend to fit a 49″ TV, so getting it delivered to our house for free, made life a lot simpler.

So for our “nook”, we went with the Toshiba 49” 4K UHD Smart TV and the Bose CineMate 15 Home Theatre Speaker System.

Since we got a SmartTV, we were able to not worry about hooking up extra features like an Apple TV because it already has everything that we would need. The less clutter the better. Our cable provider uses 4k, so we can see the pores of even the most beautiful movie star. The TV is also incredibly thin, meaning it takes up a little less space and in a small room, every inch counts.

Home theatre systems usually intimidate me, mostly because they often require a ton of wires and ton of space. Both of which either didn’t want or don’t have. I wasn’t completely sure something like the Bose was going to be a good fit for the room. The sound is so incredible, that I felt that it would be wasted, but it’s actually amazing how well it fills the room. It can obviously be a very powerful speaker and I’m sure the audiophiles hate that I’m using it to catch up on Gilmore Girls, but it works for the room and it looks great!

We’ve just moved in, so we have a lot of work to do still. And I’m not sure the boxes in the corner will ever get unpacked. But with a nice pullout couch, and now a beautiful home theatre system, our tiny room is big on comfort and tech. In the coming months, I’d like to add some Philips Hue lights and a Nintendo Classic, but for now we have more than enough to get away from it all, and that’s all we ever wanted.

To help you reboot a room in your home, I have a $100 gift card to giveaway to one lucky reader! To enter, head down to the comments and tell me which room in your house would most benefit from a little Best Buy love and with what! Contest closes December 1st!

  1. I would love to get a wireless speakers for my bedroom. It’s nice to have some relaxing music when I read before bed

  2. My livingroom. Doing some Renos and also need a TV that was made in the 21st century. Truth my TV is about 20 years old.

I like the TV you got.

  3. We have a huuuuuuge old rear projection TV in our basement that weighs as much as a small elephant with no HDMI so it has on old Xbox hooked up for Netflix and games. Could definitely use some Best buy love. The old TV would have to come out in pieces though 🙂
