A lot of international attention always gets paid to TIFF, for its size, quality of movies and big movie stars.  But for the last few years, Calgary’s Underground Film Festival (CUFF) has been slowly building buzz and excitement among the Calgary film community and this year’s festival might be its biggest yet!

This year’s festival will run from April 11th-17th and this year, it means even more to me.

For the first time ever, Mike’s Bloggity Blog is sponsoring a film at the festival! I’ve ever done anything like this before and I couldn’t be more excited, especially because the film is just oh so cool.

I’m going to be sponsoring the festival’s opening selection, which is Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.  A hilarious spoof on the horror movie genre that was filmed right here in Calgary.  After exploding out of the gate at Sundance, the movie has been making the festival rounds for a year or so now and it and it is finally about to make its premiere in Calgary!  I  just did a search and I actually talked about this cult-movie-in-the-making all way back in January 2010.  I guess I knew then that we were going to have a special relationship!

The film has been the talk of the festival ciruit ever since it premiered a Sundance. It stars Tyler Labine (Reaper, Breaker High), Katrina Bowden (30 Rock) and Alan Tudyk (Firefly). So what is it about?  Here’s the official description: “Tucker & Dale are two hillbillies heading out to their newly acquired vacation home. After they come across a group of college kids camping nearby, they are soon suspected of being killers. As the body count accidentally climbs, so does fear and confusion. Tucker & Dale believe the kids have made some sort of suicide pact, while the kids keep trying to get revenge on the hillbillies they think have captured their friend. Comparisons to Shaun of the Dead only makes sense, and won’t disappoint fans of that film’s blend of horror and comedy.”

After the movie premieres, I’m actually going to be moderating the Q&A with some of the cast and crew of the film, which I think is going to be an amazing experience, only because I know they are going to be hilarious.

Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil premieres April 11th at 7pm at The Plaza Theatre.  Tickets are only $11 and you can get them right now!

Soooooooooo excited!
