If you’re like me and pretty much fully dependent on car sharing services like Car2Go, well today should be very exciting day!
Car2Go just announced that they’ve just added new four-door vehicle to their fleets in Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary, and even cooler, they are fully-loaded Mercedes B-Class. Normal Car2Go vehicles are the relatively compact 2-door Smart car.
Last week, I was actually incredibly lucky and got to drive the new car before the official launch, and when I tell you that it changes how car sharing will work for me, I’m not kidding!
First things first, it’s a Mercedes. I mean come on. Nothing in my life is leading to me ever being able to drive a Mercedes on a permanent basis, so I’ll take any chance I can get.
And there’s all these benefits:
It fits a bike!
Like a whole bike, you don’t have to take the tires off or anything. I wager it would actually fit two bikes.
It fits a family!
This is both huge for families who haven’t been able to use Car2Go before, and also people who have friends with kids who like ice cream as much as I do. Finally I no longer have to sit at Peter’s Drive Inn by myself! Now I can pick them up, and we can enjoy ice cream or other trips together!
It can help you move!
You know that guilt you have about asking your friends to help you move because you don’t have a car? Â Well, you can pretty much never have to worry about that again!
You can hook your phone up!
Now for short trips, this might not be that useful. But if you’re planning on having a the car for a longer trip, then this is a great feature!
It costs the same!
At least for the pilot program, the new four-door cars will be the same price as the regular Car2Gos. Plus, can we talk about how this makes trips to Ikea so much easier!
It has a rearview camera!
I can’t think of a better modern invention.
There’s 25 of ’em!
Here in Calgary, there will be 25 four-door cars…at first. You’ll be able to find them using your Car2Go app, with a different icon indicating the bigger car. Â Make sure you download the newest updated though. These cars don’t work with your membership cards, they work exclusively with your phone app!
It drives like a dream!
I won’t pretend to be a car expert, but I took the car out on the highway, and it was a blast to drive. Smooth, easy to control and really just a ton of fun!
My hope is that this pilot is a great success and we see a variety of Car2Gos hit the streets soon! There’s not often I’ll need the four-door, but with a mix of cars, the idea of living car free in Calgary becomes more and more possible for so many people!
