This year, partially inspired by recent events, I’ve challenged myself to do things that scare me. It’s not so much a New Year’s Resolution, as much as it is a much needed kick in the pants. There’s a whole lot of crazy fun things to do out there, and I’ve felt recently that I needed to be doing…or at least trying more of them. So when my friends invited me out skating this weekend, I thought what better opportunity would there be to take to the ice and try something that I don’t think I’ve done since I was a kid.
I’ll be honest, it was rough. The ice was a little scary and the fear of falling (both down and through) was almost enough to not make me go at all. But you know what? I didn’t fall, not even once. I do wish I had tied my skates a little tighter, but there’s always next time. We spent about an hour skating around Bowness Park and it was really fantastic. I sorta felt like I was in a Canada Post commercial or something.
I’m not sure what’s next on my list of things that scare me, but I’m sure I’ll come up with something, after all, there’s still eleven months to go!
