It happened: The Avril and Chad Kroeger duet!

Oct 08, 2013

Ever since they announced their surprise engagement last year, we knew this day was coming: The Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger song finally came out today and well, it’s pretty much what you expected.  (I’ll let you interpret what that means.)

For what it’s worth, it’s not a horrible pop ballad. But, for me, the song continues to highlight what’s been wrong with Avril’s career for a long time, she refuses to evolve as an artist.  This is coming from someone who used to be a huge Avril fan and even went to a few concerts back in the day, but “Let Me Go” could have easily be played during the closing credits of any Disney action movie ten years ago.  Plus, while I’m no therapist, isn’t it weird that the newlyweds first song together is about a terrible and horrible-sounding breakup? I’ll give Lavigne some points because this is the first song in a long time that highlights the fact that the she can actually sing, she just normally seems too lazy to.  And while it seems that Avril and Kroeger have basically given up on attracting new fans, this song will appease the loyal fans that both of these two Canadian superstars have already established and since those fans (and their money) aren’t going anywhere, we should just all accept that these newlyweds aren’t either.
