Perez meets Jian

>

Every since the whole Billy Bob “drama”, I can’t help but feel that CBC’s The Q is really bringing their A game. Not that they haven’t before, but they are certainly benefiting from their recent international exposure by bringing in a wide range of guests, guests that will surely start conversation across Canada.

Tomorrow will be no different.

Jian Ghomeshi will be interviewing the one and only Perez Hilton today. But wait, this isn’t your regular ET Canada-type segment with the self-proclaimed Gossip Gangster, according to Ghomeshi’s Twitter, Hilton will be on to talk about tastemaking & music from his perspective. Is it weird that I don’t know what tastemaking is? According to the radio-show host, “he’ll (Perez) be nicely counterbalanced by (musician) Nick Cave.”
The Q airs on CBC Radio 1 Monday to Friday at 10am and 10pm.

Is Perez Finally Going Down?

>

File this under: career suicide.

I never really announced it, but I stopped following and reading Perez Hilton after the whole Will.i.am dibacle, it’s been hard, but my life seems to be back on track, with the help of twitter and BBQ Ruffles chips.

Well it turns out that apparantly I’m not the only Canadian is who fed up with Perez.

Perez was supposed to make a paid guest appearance at the River Rock Casino Resort (richmond, bc) on August 15th. But after tons of hype only 12 tickets were sold. No, that is not a typo, I’ll spell it just to be sure: TWELVE.

Yikes.

So the show has been scrapped and Perez has made absolutely no mention of it.

Raise your hand if you are surprised!

semi-related note: I too do guest appearances. My payment is no-cover and a rye and coke. Discuss.

MMVAs: Three days late

>
So with the world falling apart around us, I had a lot to think about lately.

Mostly about the MMVAS.
I know the video award shows were actually a couple of days ago, so this posted might seem dated, but I honestly had to take a couple of days to process that annual shit show that is the Much Music Video Awards.
I think it sucks that the whole Perez Hilton vs. Black Eyed Peas drama over shadowed the actual awards.  Imagine your whole job is to plan the awards and the next morning all anyone is talking about is a bitch-fight between two people in a hotel.  I would be pissed.  (side note: I think what happened to Perez was really crappy, but if he knew that Will.I.Am didn’t punch him, why did he tweet that he did.  Don’t stir the pot and blame someone else).
The actual awards are impressive.  The coordination that must be involved is overwhelming for me to think about.  It is definitely one of the most grand and unique award shows out there.  After the Gemini’s of course.
But the awards are what they are. Unfortunately it seems that the awards are turning more and more away from their all-canadian format, which always made the MMVAs stick out. Chris from Out is Through pointed out that all the Canadian bands were stuck on rooftops or side stages for their performances, while major american acts got to be on the big stage.  I was confused to why the Jonas brothers were co-hosting, especially because they never acknowledged the VJs who were also hosting. It was a like a mashup of two different award shows.
Finally, I wish MuchMusic kinda laid off the Nickelback if for no other reason to give smaller bands a chance to shine.  It’s never really clear how the MMVAs are decided, so why not help out the smaller bands like Inward Eye and Mariana Trench that could the exposure.
But the MMVAS were HUGE for muchmusic this year. Check out some of these stats:
  •  Live broadcast of the 2009 MMVAs grows nearly 50% with teens
  •  muchmusic.com sets record with 143,000 unique visitors on June 21
  •  A record 10,000 fans envelop MuchMusic HQ to experience the MMVAs in person
If you missed the awards, CTV will be re-airing them on HD this Saturday!
Did you watch the MMVAs?  How old did you feel watching them?  Will Rumor Willis ever learn how to speak into a microphone?

Rogers Perez Hilton's Me!

>
So I’ve been fighting with Rogers for the past couple of weeks because they say I started a new contract last year, when I know that I didn’t.

Anyway, our conversations have let to some pretty funny quotes.  Including one talking about how they don’t help customers 15 minutes before close because the company won’t pay overtime because of the recession.
But today’s quote from a worker in a call centre was my favorite:
guy on phone: well did you sign a contract?
michael: no
guy on phone: well was it a verbal contract?
michael: a what?!?
guy on phone: a verbal contract, you know, did you say that you wanted a contract.
michael: ummm…I’m pretty sure verbal contracts don’t count.
guy on phone: at Rogers they do.
So if you work at Rogers or know someone that does, I have to ask: Do verbal contracts really count?!?  I just want the new Iphone, why does it have to be so hard?  Why Steve Jobs, why?!!?

Completely untrue rumors about Virgin Fest

>

I’ve grown tired of VirginFest refusing to announce their Alberta lineup. Asides from not announcing any of the acts, they won’t even say if they are coming to Calgary or Edmonton. Hell they might even be setting up shop in Red Deer this year and no one seems to know.

And since they keep ignoring me, I’ve decided to just start spreading rumors on Twitter about the festival.
check out my twitter page (and follow me too!) to se
e what completely untrue rumors I will be spreading today.
In case you missed them, Monday’s were:
1) Ever wonder what happened to Melissa O’Neil? Wonder no more, she is headlining @virginmobilecan
2) Joe Jonas to perform first solo show @virginmobilecan
Wanna help me make up rumors? It’s a lot of fun. I can see why Perez Hilton does it all the time.

Vampires take over Degrassi!

>
Vampire Diaries is one of the CW’s newest shows that will be premiering this Fall.  I plan on paying as little attention to this twilight, which in turn is a buffy rip-off, as possible. By the look of the teaser trailer below, I would rather injure myself in unimaginable ways then watch it.

But I will give special mention to series star and Canadian Nina Dobrev who is currently playing teen mom Mia on Degrassi.  It’s awesome to see Canadian actors booking major parts on shows that, no matter how bad they are, have buzz around them!
I talked about this pilot a while ago and I couldn’t help notice that this is the second time The CW has stolen of one of Degrassi’s biggest stars as Shanae Grimes is still overacting the heck out of Annie on 90210.
This is a buzzworthy week for the guys over at degrassi.  Even Aubrey Graham (Jimmy Brooks) got some extra press and even made Perez Hilton for making out with Rihanna a couple of days ago.
Sadly, I still have not accomplished my goal of becoming  BBFN with Paula Brancati.
Oh well, good to see some Canadian kids doing good south of the border!

Should CBC say thank you to Billy Bob?

>So we’ve all seen/heard about the Billy Bob Thornton video on CBC.  But what impressed me the most was the sheer numbers of people who have seen the video.  The clip has already had nearly 1,020,000 views and it’s only been up for just over a day!

Suck on that lonely girl.
It’s also been featured on HUGE celebrity sites like Perez Hilton, DListed and TMZ.  And yes, I purposely didn’t link to TMZ because that site hurts my whole soul.

The video has exploded all over the internet, which luckily means that hopefully by the time the weekend rolls around millions of  people will know how cool the CBC is (specifically Jian Ghomeshi).  I guess that’s one way of getting Stephen Harper’s attention.
Still not impressed?
Check out all the honors the video already has on Youtube. (If it doesn’t say the country, they mean the USA)

Vibe missteps again!

>Vibe 98.5 is like Lindsay Lohan.  It’s train wreck of gift that just keeps on giving.

I know I pick on them a lot, but today I just have something really quick to mention. On the way home from work yesterday, during their Radio Perez segment, Perez did a story about the douchbag Chris Brown and how he was going to plead not guilty for beating the umbrella out of Rihanna a couple of months ago.  Obviously Chris needs help because he does seem one bit sorry for his actions.  And you don’t need me to post the police report here, you all know how bad it was.
So what does Vibe 98.5 do?
They actually played out the Radio Perez Segment with a Chris Brown song!  And not just any Chris Brown song, it was the love song “With You”
First off, why the hell is this station that appeals to a young female demographic still playing Chris Brown?  Secondly, I love that that someone in that station today actually had the following train of thought: “Perez is doing a story on Chris abusing his girlfriend and he is going to court today.  I should play a Chris Brown song to show our support.”
Seriously, you can’t write this stuff.
Feel free to email Vibe 98.5′s General Manager Tom Peacock (tpeacock@radio.astral.com) and let them know that they are supporting Brown every time they play one of his songs.

Worth staying up late for!

The first four minutes of this video, featuring Perez Hilton on Chelsea Lately, is proof that Chelsea Handler is one of the funniest people in the biz. She is a brutality honest woman who doesn’t hold back. If you are listening to this at work, I suggest turning the volume down.

Lady Gaga Sucks in Calgary

>The following is an email actually sent to Gossip Gangster Perez Hilton

Dear Perez,

So I just got back from the Lady Gaga concert in Calgary, Alberta and I thought you should know a little something about one of your new BFFs.

The doors were supposed to open at 8:00pm, which they did. But you don’t have to be Paris Hilton’s BFF to know not to go that early in the evening. The only people that would perform that early would be….well no one. Not even my relatives get drunk that early. And they have been drunk since yesterday.

Anyway, my friends and I showed up around 11:00pm (on a school/work night) and waited. Of course, by waited I mean got pushed and shoved like it was a premiere for Twilight or something. I swear 75% of the audience was made of Degrassi extras rejects who probably barely got through security. My friends and I did some shots, waited, chatted with some people who had been standing in front of the stage for four hours, did some more shots, waited, did some more chatting, danced to Britney and kept waiting. Finally it was about 12:15am and she still hadn’t shown up on stage.

What was frustrating about the whole thing was that we aren’t talking about Elton John here Perez (who started on time both times I saw him). We are talking about Lady Gaga, who has only had one hit. Oh and for the record, her one hit “Just Dance” never got higher than 16 on the Billboard 100 chart and her second single PEAKED at 125. Wow. Even more embarrassing, her album also peaked at a lonely 17th position on the albums chart. Statistically speaking, Lady Gaga is a one hit wonder, which makes waiting that long to see her similar to waiting for Donna Lewis, Tina Arena or OMC.

Look Perez, I know she is probably an amazing performer. But Calgary, Alberta ain’t Vegas. We are a city full of workers and students and it was a WEDNESDAY night, what the hell was she doing on the bus in front of Tequila for so long? Couldn’t she TIVO Pushing Daisies like the rest of us? The people in front of us said they listened to Lady Gaga every morning and they ended up leaving before we did. They even said that they were never going to listen to her again because they were so disappointed.

The whole evening was made worse by the fact that when my friends and I decided to leave, we saw Lady Gaga leaving her bus to enter the club around 12:30pm. Those outside, who had not yet hit puberty, screamed with excitement and she didn’t even raise her head to say hello. Excuse me Lady Gaga, when did you become such hot shit? Calgary is a freaking cold place and those people waited HOURS to see you sing one damn song and you couldn’t even fake a smile. It’s so funny Perez that you call Christina Aguilera a Gaga-copycat, but you know what the main difference between them is? X-tina started on time and loved every second with her fans. Lady Gaga? Well I don’t know, we left before she got on stage to sing her one song. I’m guessing we didn’t miss much.

Next time you see her, tell her that what she did in Calgary was defnitely not cool. Even less cool then the fact that she got third billing next to the New Kids on The Block and Natasha Bedingfield at the Saddledome earlier that night.

All the best,

Mike

Despite everything, a big THANK YOU to Lisa from Tequila Nightclub!!!! She has always been awesome to Mike’s Bloggity Blog and me and my friends always have a blast at Tequila, even if Lady Gaga sucked it hard!!!!!
