Cory takes Calgary!

>
As many people know, GLEE’s biggest star, Cory Monteith was in his hometown of Calgary all weekend. And by all accounts, he was as nice and cool as he is on the show.

I was way too sick to go even near the red carpet, but all the media was talking in the back room about how awesome he was. He spent time talking to everyone that he could, which isn’t an easy thing to do when EVERYONE wants to talk to you. Not that I would know.
Monteith easily got the loudest screams from the throngs of fans sitting in the bleachers at the Geminis, he even came on stage twice to participate in the awards show. Once was to perform in a medley with Canadian Idol loser/winner Theo Tams and Mike Reno from Loverboy. I’m guessing a Glee embargo kept Cory from singing, so he played the drums instead. (click here to watch the video) He then came back on the stage to give the Best Comedy Show Award to Rick Mercer. Even Mercer was impressed saying: “I just hugged the guy from Glee!
I was really hoping to find a flaw with this guy, but no luck. Anyone else have any cool Cory stories?

Cory's Big Surprise!

>
The Geminis are tomorrow and I’m so excited. However, my level of excitement just jumped exponentially after reading GLEE’s Cory Monteith‘s latest Tweet:

“waiting for my flight to Calgary! If I could tell you what’s planned for the geminis’, your head would explode from excitement. Mine did!”
Do I smell a musical number with Stombo? I think I do!

Glee is back and it's FREE

>
It’s been a long two weeks, but GLEE is finally back tonight! How ironic and cruel was it that we hate to wait for the World Series to finish, so we could watch our favorite musical tv-show?

I don’t know if you know this, but during the show’s two week break, they released the first volume of the GLEE soundtrack and obviously it’s totally wicked cool and awesome.
But if for some reason, you still weren’t sure, I wanted you to know that you could go to InMusic.ca and listen to the whole disc for FREE!
GLEE + FREE = Best Day Ever.
Welcome back Glee, we missed you horribly.

You wanna go?

>
We are only seven sleeps away from the Geminis!

To celebrate, every day next week, I’m going to be giving away tickets to the awards show on November 14th!

I’ll type it again.

My lunch date with Erin Karpluk!

>

Guess who I just had lunch with…..

Swoon. Drool. Palpitate. It’s Being Erica’s Erin Karpluk.
Best lunch ever? Probably. Correction, Easily.

For two hours we talk about all things Erica, including the horrible wig she wore during this week’s futuristic episode. If you haven’t seen the wig, it was bad. Like really really bad (see below.) We also had a good laugh over next week’s episode which involves Erica catching Ethan doing “you know what” to his “you know what.” Another example of how Being Erica isn’t your mother’s CBC drama.

The second season of the show has already wrapped filming, but don’t worry we still have five episodes to get us through the Fall. I don’t know what I can necessarily talk about, without incurring the wrath of CBC publicists, but Erin said that the season finale shocked even her. Will it be as shocking as last year’s episode, when Dr. Tom quit? “It is a different kind of shocking”, she teased. We will also see the return of huge guest character in the finale, one that many people will be happy to see return.
But we didn’t just talk about Being Erica. Now that the second season is done filming and she awaits word on a third season renewal (hopefully by January), Erin is busy filming another TV show called Life UneXpected. The show is filming in Vancouver and will be airing in January on the CW. Sadly, Erin doesn’t have the lead role, which is seem to sorta be happy about. She seems perfectly content to have someone else carry the show for a while. For now, she’ll be a recurring character on the series that also stars Kerr Smith (Dawson’s Creek) and Shiri Appleby (Roswell).
And even though the waitress kept trying to give us the bill, I couldn’t possibly end the conversation. Erin had lots of really interesting things to say about the industry and why she has devoted her life to it.
We talked about how important it to set goals and and to keep focused, especially when it comes to your career. Erin was also really honest when it came to talking about the sacrifices she has made for her work including jobs, weddings, reunions and even relationships. (Yes, gentlemen and my roommate, she is single.) But for now she is focused on acting and knows that she wants to have a career when she is sixty. That is something I don’t think a lot of actors think about. They tend to live in the right now, but Erin doesn’t seem that way at all. She loves her job and it shows.
I think one of my favourite parts of our chat was when she said that she really hopes that she wins the Gemini for Best Actress next week, so she can take the time to thank all the people that help behind the scenes. She learned from her Drama degree to appreciate everyone that works on the show and that’s not just about the actors.
Seriously? Swoon. Drool. Swoon some more.
With that, the waitress finally and rather aggressively put the bill on the table and our lunch date was done. She’ll be back in Calgary next week for the Geminis and you can catch Being Erica every Tuesday on CBC. Life UneXpected debuts on the CW in January. And if she isn’t busy enough I’ve instructed her to start watching GLEE and to try to get a role on Grey’s Anatomy when she moves to the States next year. All in a days work for Erin Karpluk.

Love for the Geminis!

>
I’m getting more and more excited for the Geminis! They are just a couple of weeks away now and looking at the guest list, it’s going to be quite the weekend in Calgary.

They Gemini organizers just added Cory Monteith (Finn on Glee) as a presenter at the awards. I don’t quite know how I’m going to do it, but I’m going to track him down and interview the shit out of him. I don’t know anyone at Global to help track down his managment, but if you do email me at: mikesbloggityblog@gmail.com
Also presenting at the awards are Being Erica’s Erin Karpluk, Flashpoints’s Hugh Dillon, Melrose Place’s Jessica Lucas and George Stoumboulopoulos!!

This weekend is going to be epic.
16 sleeps!

Attention All Gleeks!

Coming Soon: Glee Soundtrack!

>
Great news, we are only a couple of weeks away from the first GLEE CD.

I’ll admit it, at first I was downloading all the songs, but then I realized that I was being financially irresponsible. And if there is one thing I try not to be it’s financially irresponsible and judgmental. 50% ain’t bad.
So I decided to wait until November 3rd for the release of the Glee Soundtrack (Volume 1), because it will probably only be $9.99 on Itunes. Sounds like a deal to me. Luckily, I was able to get my inappropriately small hands on the track list:
1. Don’t Stop Believin’
2. Can’t Fight This Feeling
3. Gold Digger
4. Take a Bow
5. Bust Your Windows
6. Taking Chances
7. Alone
8. Maybe This Time
9. Somebody to Love
10. Hate On Me
11. No Air
12. You Keep Me Hangin’ On
13. Keep Holding On
14. Bust a Move
15. Sweet Caroline
16. Dancing with Myself
17. Defying Gravity
Oh and just because I’m generous here is one of the show’s stars, Cory Monteith (he’s Canadian) on my favourite show, Chelsea Lately. Which we STILL don’t have in Canada. I know you got other things on your mind Global, but you own the rights, make it happen.

Reasons to Like Halloween

>

Raise your hands if you hate Halloween?
If you actually raised you hand, you probably looked weird to the people around you, but thanks for you support, because I HATE Halloween too.
Okay, maybe hate is a strong word. I find Halloween annoying. Especially when it’s on a Monday or Tuesday. It just seems weird. This year Halloween is on a Saturday, which means that November 1st, as-per-usual, my car will be covered in puke and I’ll have not a single Rockets to show for it.

The only good thing about Halloween is all the scary movies that come out. If you haven’t seen Zombieland, you must. Especially if you are
a fan of Drag Me To Hell or Shaun of The Dead. It’s really a great horror movie that actually isn’t that scary. And in the next couple of weeks, our movie theatres will be inundated with even more scary flicks, including: Saw VI, Paranormal Activity, The Box, The Vampires Assistant, The Fourth Kind and Boondock Saints II, which I feel will be scary for completely different reasons
If going to the movies isn’t your thing, Halloween is also a good time for new horror movie re-releases on DVD and Bluray. And seriously, if you don’t have a Blu-ray player yet, you are missing out. I’ve actually spent the last couple of evenings, prepping for the most annoying night of the year by watching some of my favourite scary movies. Some of the best ones have been the older 80′s movies, that never even looked this good when they were filmed the first time. You have no idea how scary Chucky is, until that little shit-filled demon doll i
s chopping up people in high definition.

And don’t even get me started on the Hannibal Lector Collection, which was also just released. It includes Manhunter, (which I kept mistakenly calling Maneater, which turns out wasn’t that far off.) Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal. Now, I don’t really know Anthony Hopkins that well, but seriously, who would marry someone that can play such a terrifying character? They say there is some truth to every lie, well let’s hope the same doesn’t apply to actors who play crazy serial killers, especially the whole eating people thing. Imagine eating sushi with that guy? No thank-you.
And lastly, Quarantine. Nothing erases the smile induced by another great episode of Glee, faster than this docu-style horror movie with crazy zombie face-eating monsters. I’d like to see Lea Michele sing a song about that. I’ve loved Quarantine since the first time I saw it and I have a feeling that I actually might make it more of a Christmas tradition. It’s not really festive, but it is a good summary of a Mike’s Bloggity Blog Family dinner.

But by far my favourite scary movie is the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, which starred Canada’s Sarah Polley. I’m telling you the truth when I say that I could watch that movie each and every day. I don’t know how many times I’ve found it on TV and stayed up late to watch it, even though I own it on DVD and Blu-ray. And that scene where she falls in the bathtub? Makes me cringe every.single.time.

Fashion 911

>I don’t talk about fashion much…or ever. But…

…can someone please teach me how to start dressing like Mr. Schuster (Matthew Morrison) on Glee? Can it be bought at Joe Fresh? That is my only condition.
