Glee is back! Is it too soon?

Remember when Glee premiered last year and a small group of people rallied to save the show?  It was the amazing “little show that could.”  Now Glee has completely exploded and everyone knows about it.  The flip side of the coin is that people who haven’t even seen it yet are sick of it.

The show will be back on Global TV in just a few week on and they’ve just released the first preview of the show’s second season.  Looks promising, but that probably doesn’t mean a thing!

As an example of how huge this show, watch how many blogs post this video today.

The Best (and worst) of Glee!

Since debuting just over a year ago, Glee has released a total of four discs and today the season’s final disc hits shelves.

The fifth album is called Glee: Journey to the Regionals and it is exactly that, a tribute to the 80′s rock band Journey.  Featured on the disc is a new version of Don’t Stop Believing, Anyway You Want It, and the ballad Faithfully.  Gleeks will also be able to Bohemian Rhapsody, To Sir With Love and Over The Rainbow.

So with the final disc of the season now released, I thought it would be a good time to look back and pick my five favourite songs of the season!

Don’t Stop Believing (Glee Cast)
The song that started it all was also one of the show’s biggest risks. By taking on the Journey classic even though it is still insanely popular, showed audiences that no song would ever be off limits.  Now that I’ve mentioned it, try to get it out of your head.

Like A Prayer (Glee Cast)
We knew from the beginning of Glee that a Madonna episode would eventually happen.  But who knew it would happen so quickly?  The Power of Madonnna was a collection the singer’s best and capped of the insane episode with one of Madonna’s best and most controversial songs ever.  While the Glee kids left their Jesus replicas at home, they did bring with them a full choir.  A choir for a show choir?  Who’da thunk!

Dancing With Myself (Kevin McHale)
You probably didn’t even realized that McHale as Artie is constantly the show’s MVP.  He’s the heart of the show and no song captured that better than his first solo.

True Colours (Jenna Ushkowitz and Cast)
The first half of the season didn’t see the show give too many of it’s solos to anyone except Lea Michele.  And while you usually can’t blame them, with this ballad Ushkowitz proved that she is equally deserving of the spotlight, that is why she stole it.

I Dreamed a Dream (Lea Michele and Idina Menzel)
I’ll admit that I had never heard of  Idina Menzel before her involvement in Glee.  But the apparent broadway legend cemented her role in one of the show’s most emotional moments.   Finding out that she was actually Rachel’s mom was just the icing on the cake.

And just because I can, here is the show’s worst song…so far:

O
ne Less Bell to Answer/ A House is Not a Home (Kristin Chenoweth and Matthew Morrison)
If this season of Glee taught us anything, it is that the show’s creator Ryan Murphy has a big giant musical hard-on for Kristin Chenoweth.  While her voice is amazing, her duets with Morrison are the mayor and deputy mayor of dullsville.  This song was the culmination of one snoozer after another.

Madonna/Glee Preview and Auditions!

Glee Preview:

First things first. I’ve seen tonight’s Madonna-themed Glee and it is good. Actually, really good. The stories are a little rushed and the show just barely fist all the songs in, but that was kinda expected. Perhaps this would have been a great use of the rarely used “Special Two Hour Movie Event” that Fox is famous for?

Just a little warning, the ‘Like A Virgin’ monologue was a little too creepy for my tastes, but then again, I sometimes wear socks two days in a row. The episode is ends up belonging to Sue, Kurt and Mercedes as they all live-out their real-life Madonna obsessed fantasies. Plus, wait for the comeback that finally puts Sue in her place!

Auditions:

As you might also know, thousands of people are already submitting their auditions to nab one of three roles on Glee’s second role. Like in it’s first year, Ryan Murphy is looking to cast all unknowns for the new parts!

If you are looking to waste hours upon hours, may I suggest you watch the countless auditions that are popping up on the Myspace audition page!

It is like being your very own judge on American Idol, only you can actually be more mean because the contestants can’t hear you!

Click here to watch/judge/mock the auditions that have already been posted.

One of the auditions that caught my eye was Jason Lemmon’s. Mostly because he is kinda a Cory Monteith hybrid. Raised in Calgary, moved to Vancouver, he even sings ‘Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore.’ He has got a good look to him, even if his collar is dangerously close to being popped. Plus, I think he can hold his own against Kirk, who is rumored to be looking for a boyfriend in the second season.

Sneak Preview: I've seen the new Glee!!!!

>
Unless you somehow missed them on Oprah, at the White House or on the cover of Rolling Stone, you know that we are just over 24 hours away from the return of Glee!

This weekend ,I got the chance to watch the new episode and I’ve got lots to report. Okay, I actually watched it four times, but can you blame me? It has been a long four months. (Don’t worry, this is relatively spoiler free. Just lots of strong hints and innuendos.)
Before I get to the good stuff, I wanted to say something to all the people that are going to watch Glee for the very first time tonight. To truly enjoy an episode of Glee, suspension of disbelief is always required. Yes, we know that no one can just pick up sheet music and start singing. We also know that there wouldn’t ever be a three-piece orchestra just sitting in a bookstore, but this isn’t 24 here people. This is Glee, just sit back and enjoy the musical numbers like a real Gleek.
Now on to the juicy bloggity bits:
  • This week’s song theme has to do with the word ‘hello’. Although, in one case, it is just ‘hell’.
  • Finn and Rachel both get their own solos.
  • For a nice guy, Will does something pretty awful.
  • Someone you wouldn’t expect is exposed a virgin.
  • Someone shocking betrays the Glee club.
  • There is a crazy-off between Emma vs. Terry. Who do you think will win?
  • There is a new club on campus: The McKinley High Old Maid’s club.
  • Sorry Puck and Quinn fans, with hardly any lines, this is not their episode.
  • Brittany is quickly becoming my favourite Glee clubber. “Sometimes I forget my middle name.”

On a final note, can the show please stop ringing the bell between each scene. It gets really annoying, really quickly. And not in a cool Rachel kinda way.

Welcome back Glee. We’ve missed you!

Four Videos you MUST Watch!

>Songstress Ingrid Michaelson destroying (in a good way) Bon Iver‘s Skinny Love. If this doesn’t make you feel all warm and smiley, I don’t know what will!

Sick of seeing the same Glee trailer over and over? Here is the brand new one, featuring a ton of brand new songs and story lines. Not long now!

Ten Second Epic is one of the five bands nominated for Group of The Year at this year’s Junos. Two of the band’s members Patrick Birtles and Andrew Usenik are going to playing in the Juno Cup and they’ve even started making some training videos! It looks like they are taking this hockey game against the NHL greats very seriously!

I don’t know much about cars, but this new Canadian-made Nissan commercial is pretty cool. It was filmed wit 1/10 scale model RC Car, it was even filmed by an RC Helicopter!!! I can’t afford an actual Nissan, but maybe I could afford the toy car.

Glee is back and they are looking for you!

>
By now you’ve probably heard that GLEE has already been renewed for a second season. This is particularly amazing since we still have nine more episodes of the first season to enjoy.

To be honest, I didn’t think this show would make it past four weeks, so I’m ecstatic!
What is even more exciting, is that FOX and the show’s producers will be going on a national audition tour in an effort to fill three key roles for season two.
“Auditions will be open to amateur individuals as well as professionals between the ages of 16-26, and all hopefuls will be able to submit auditions online. Additional details will be announced soon [via] fox.com/glee.”
They probably won’t make it to Canada, but that doesn’t mean we can’t go to them. After all, that’s what Cory Monteith did and he is the star of the show now!

Glee: Give them something to talk about!

>
So did you watch Glee last night?

How many times did you cry?
What? How many times did I cry? None. Once. Okay, fine, twice. After Rachel’s solo and after they sung, You Can’t Always Get Want You Want. I was like a proud bald father.
Fox says the show won’t be back until April, but with so many of their shows already tanking, I’m going to make a bold prediction and say that Glee will be back on the air in February.
The show makes so much money for FOX. I mean they’ve already released two soundtracks (Vol.2 came out Tuesday) and the DVDs come out on December 29th. Plus the songs from the show occupy an astonishing 23 spots on the Itunes Top 200 singles. Nope, that is not a typo!!!!
What I found funny about the finally is that you can tell that creator, Ryan Murphy, was a little nervous that the show wouldn’t get picked up. It just wrapped itself in too neat of a bow. A trend we’ve already seen with another on-the-bubble show, Being Erica. But Glee is no longer on the bubble and it’s easily the most talked about show of the season!
I’m so glad that so many of you decided to give Glee a chance, I wonder how many of us will be getting the CDs in our stockings this year!
See you in April Glee (but probably February!)

Glee's curtain closing! (but not before a new Christmas song!)

>
We all know that GLEE is on tonight. (If you don’t, then we are on a friendship-break.)

But did you know that Glee has it’s Fall finale on December 9th and then after that, we’ll be Glee-less until…wait for it….April 13th, 2010.
Deep Breath.
Stop Crying.
We still have a couple of weeks left, but I figured I would tell you know. Give you time to digest the news. But don’t be too sad, Glee Vol.2 comes out December 8th and the first twelve episodes hit DVD shelves on December 29th.
That makes it better right?

If not, maybe this new Glee christmas single will make it better. Listen to it below, it should be available to buy soon! Note that I said buy, not download illegally.
