Free Music: Broken Social Scene

>
I’ve been struggling lately with finding some solid Canadian entertainment news. It is like there is some sort of giant vortex of non-Olympic news. I believe this is where Ben Mulroney lives.

But I am still trying to find morsels of Canadian tidbits. Like free music, for example.
I’m not that familiar with Broken Social Scene, but apparently they make hipsters cry out of their gigantic glasses, so they must be pretty good.
Anyway, you can download their new single ‘World Sick’ off of their website for free. The song will be appearing on their newest studio album, which will be released May 4th. That is six days before my birthday. (plan accordingly)

See It's Complicated for FREE!

>
Have you seen the trailers for It’s Complicated? They look pretty good. I mean anything my fake-mother/sister Meryl does is great (Fantastic Mr. Fox anyone?), and you can’t really go wrong with my idol Steve Martin and some named Alec Baldwin. Based on the trailer, I think I might be able to convince my mom to see this movie with me. She hates going to the movies, but usually the promise of wine not in a box is enough to entice her.

Anyway, to promote the movie Universal is offering a ton of free screenings next week, to help get the word out. And unlike most screening, a bulk of them will be in Canada. So if you live in the following cities, make sure you register and you can see It’s Complicated for FREE!!!!
  • Calgary
  • Edmonton
  • Hamilton
  • Montreal
  • Ottawa
  • Winnipeg
  • Toronto (sold out)
  • Vancouver (sold out)

Skate on Tims!

>
Looking for something to do with a date or the family? Or maybe you want to date your family…wait…ignore that last part.

Tim Horton’s is offering free public skating in over 350 arenas in Alberta, British Columbia and Alberta! Unfortunately the rest of you will have to stay in your warm houses and not freeze to death.
click here to see if you get to skate for free!
I’ve never really gotten the point of skating. If it is freezing outside, why the hell would I go inside where it is just as cold? If I have to go to an arena, you better hope they have one of those warm rooms! Because asking a bald man to stand in an arena just isn’t right!!!
Have Fun!

Glee is back and it's FREE

>
It’s been a long two weeks, but GLEE is finally back tonight! How ironic and cruel was it that we hate to wait for the World Series to finish, so we could watch our favorite musical tv-show?

I don’t know if you know this, but during the show’s two week break, they released the first volume of the GLEE soundtrack and obviously it’s totally wicked cool and awesome.
But if for some reason, you still weren’t sure, I wanted you to know that you could go to InMusic.ca and listen to the whole disc for FREE!
GLEE + FREE = Best Day Ever.
Welcome back Glee, we missed you horribly.

Any country music fans out there……

Free T-Shirt!

>

All September long, I will be saving money.
Or at least trying to….
My first step towards not crying myself to sleep will be to stop buying new clothes! That’s right, from now on, I will walk right by the Superstore. No more Joe Fresh for me. I’ve realized that there comes a time in your life when you just have to say no to high-priced clothing, and turn to cereal to help put clothes on your back.
Yes, I said cereal.
Take Apple Cinnaman Cheerios for example. To celebrate the Olympics (and I’m assuming my inability to afford $7 t-shirts), General Mills is giving away relatively cool looking Signature T-Shirts. (see photo below)

All you have to do is buy a box of cereal, visit their website and enter a code. Then you get to pick your size and they send it to you. And yes, they pay the shipping!!

And it’s not just Apple Cinneman Cheerios, it’s every General Mills brand, including: Fruity Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, Oatmeal Crisp, French Toast Crunch, Reese Puffs and my personal favourite Lucky Charms.
Do you know how many free t-shirts that is!!! I’ll never have to buy clothes again. Now, if another cereal company could start giving away some free underwear, my life would be a lot less complicated. I’ll leave that one to the imagination!

New Mandy Moore…for free!

>
I’ve been shy about love of all things Mandy Moore.  What can I say, you gotta love someone that was created by the “pop machine” but then jumped ship and then told it to fuck off.

Now she is making her own kind of music and making musical love with her husband Ryan Adams.  Things couldn’t be better.
Moore newest CD, Amanda Leigh is going to be released on June 2nd. You can listen to it for free on AOL Music.  What are you going to do after you listen to it?
BUY IT!
(thanks kathy)
side note: yes, I know that moore and I have the exact same initials.  MLM 4 life!
UPDATE: Moore is also going to be on MuchMusic’s MOD tomorrow!  finally a reason to watch again.

Free Music: Attack in Black

>Who doesn’t love free music?

Especially great music.
Just wanted to give a special heads up that this week’s Itunes single of the week is awesome.  It’s from Attack in Black, which coincidentally is the band I talked about late last week.
It’s called Blood (In the Tracks) and it’s one my favorites from the band.
On a semi-related note, Am I the only one that LOVES the single of the week each and every week?  Seriously I’m obsessed.  Between that and Starbucks’ Pick of the Week, it’s my favorite way to find great (usually Canadian) music and make some sexy playlists!
My all time favorite single of the week was Matt & Kim‘s “Daylight”.  That song is the ulitmate get out of your funky mood song!  So good.
My only question is how does Itunes choose the single of the week?  My recommendation would be Andy Brown or Dojo Workhorse.  Two of my favs that are totally deserving of the PR jackpot.
