The Week in Review

>Lots of Stuff to Talk about this week!

Let’s review some things you may have missed on Mike’s Bloggity Blog and some of my other favorite blogs!
Have an awesome and safe weekend!

Hometown Intervention?!

>

Um so apparently someone from my hometown of Fredericton, New Brunswick was on A&Es Intervention last night!

Can anyone confirm this?
Did someone finally call in our mayor?
I can’t believe I  missed it!
Why isn’t my mom answering her cell?
UPDATE: Okay so it wasn’t my mom or even the mayor.  But it was a guy from Fredericton named Jeff who is a firefighter. It looks like the Intervention took place at The Crown Plaza and the episode was 12 kinds of intense.  So emotional.  Man tears always get me! Check out the video on A&E’s website.

Is Fredericton the Smartest?

>
I always knew there was something special about me….errrr I mean the place I grew up.

My hometown of Fredericton, NB (whaddup freddy beach) has been nominated for the Top Intelligent Community of 2009!!!
I have no idea what that means but I think it has something to do with IT stuff.  Admittedly, Fredericton is pretty forward thinking when it comes to wi-fi.  Did you know the entire downtown area of New Brunswick’s capital city has free wireless!  That is pretty freaking cool!
Fredericton is competing again six other cities across the world including Bristol (virginia), Eindhoven (netherlands) and Stockholm (Sweden).
Voting is open to the public and the polls close on May 15th!
Vote now and vote often!
Way to go Fredericton!

Anna's Big Day!

>
Well isn’t this just spit on face face-tickle my toes fantastic!

My hometown paper, The Daily Gleaner,  just did a great piece on actress Anna Silk!
Coincidentally enough we are both from Fredericton and she is kicking my ass in my imaginary game of most Famous Frederictonian.
But that’s another story for another time.
You have definitely seen Anna do her thing before, probably as the crazy stewardess in the Nicorette commercials or maybe as Erica Strange’s hot lesbian friend on Being Erica
She is currently living in LA and sounds like she is doing great!
Congrats on the article Anna, click here to read it.
And just because I hate to hand over the spotlight completely, here’s the article the same paper did on me back at Christmas.

More FredRock bands!

>The Fred Rock line up keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger!

If you are in the maritimes around June-19-21st, you owe it to yourself to check out Fredericton’s first rock festival.
Since I am based in Calgary, I’m currently taking offers for someone to pay for my flight out there.
Anyone?  Anyone at all?  Nope?  Sigh.
Aside from the great bands already announced, there have just been three more added to the line up!
Red Track (These guys are my new favorites!)
All their myspace pages are linked above, so do yourself a favor and educated yourself in great music! Suck on that Miley!

The Real Fredericton?

>A lot of people always ask me what growing in Fredericton was like.

There are pros (safe, clean, history) and cons (one crappy theatre).  But I think this video by Gradual Upgrade does a better job than I can explaining life in New Brunswick’s capital city.

Fred Rock: More Bands Announced!

>

A couple weeks ago a mentioned the big rock festival happening in Fredericton this coming summer.  And in case you weren’t sure, Fredericton is indeed having a rock festival.

The big acts announced so far are the Black Crows and Live.
Organizers are slowing announcing the rest of the acts that will be making up the rest of the festival.
Along with the Black Crows, Saturday night’s acts will also include:
MATT MAYS & EL TORPEDO
The Respectables with GORDIE JOHNSON

ROSS NEILSEN and the SUFFERIN BASTARDS
FUTURES PAST

I’m really happy to see that the festival is going to a great mix of local, atlantic canadian, national and international talent.  It looks like this festival is gearing up to one of a kind…especially for Fredericton!

A Fredericton Millionaire?

>Someone in Fredericton is a millionaire!

A ticket worth 4.5 million dollars was sold in the capital city on the weekend!!!!!

Fredericton get ready to rock…seriously!

>
A couple months ago a heard a rumor of big rock festival coming to my hometown of Fredericton, NB.  I didn’t much attention to it because, well Fredericton doesn’t really strike me as a town that likes to rock.  After all they have a bylaw where no building can be higher than the cathedral steeple.

But this week, the organizers of FredRock announced that the rock festival is a go and that they have two huge acts ready for the first year of the festival….
The Black Crows and Live!
Now I’ll be the first to admit that they aren’t A-list rock bands anymore, but I am impressed none the less.  The organizers seem to be doing an amazing job organizing event in spite of a city council that rivals that of the one from Footloose.
I’m not too sure if I’ll be able to go home for the big festival or not, but if you are in the area I hope that you find the time to check out the shows between June 19-21st, especially because a three day pass is only $89,99!
The organizers plan on releasing more of the acts over the next couple of weeks.  But so fair it looks pretty good…..

"Dragon" is coming your way

>
Do you love, love, love CBC’s hit* reality show Dragon Den?

Well if you love it so much, why don’t you just be on it?

The producers of the show for inventors are touring Canada starting this Saturday looking for the next great inventor. Of course, if you aren’t the next great inventor they’ll crush your dreams on national television, but you’ll get to be on TV, so really it’s a win-win.

Unlike other shows, this one will actually be touring all of Canada, thus giving all canadians a chance at their 15 minutes.

Fredericton is un-shockingly left off of the list, the audition tour includes the usual suspects (Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver). But it also includes a couple of different towns not usually on the reality show market including: Moncton, Saint John, Fort McMurray, Prince George and Nelson.

So if you’ve always thought you would be a good inventor or have a great idea make sure you go and audition.

If I could invent anything it would be…..
Ha! Like I’d tell you. See you at the audition suckers!

*the term “hit” is relative to the network
