Erin Karpluk: Calendar Girl!

Check out the amazing cover for the new Pinups for Pink 2011 calendar. Recognize the cover girl?  Yup, that is Being Erica’s Erin Karpluk looking STUNNING!  Wowza.  She is worth the $28 for the calender alone.

100% of the proceeds generated from the smokin’ hot calendar will be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. In addition to Karpluk, the calendar features some of Vancouver biggest rising starts including Erin Ireland, ET Canada’s Erin Cebula, Shaw TV’s Fiona Forbes and Olympian Ashleigh McIvor.

Erin Karpluk's next big move!!!

>
If you haven’t been watching The CW’s Life Unexpected, you are missing out.

If all the good reviews haven’t been convincing enough for you, how about if we add a little Being Erica into the mix.
More specifically Erin Karpluk.
When I talked to Karpluk back in November, she revealed that she would be re-occurring on the popular new series. And her run as the radio station’s manager starts tonight!
Erin will be showing up in about five or six episodes.
Not to get you too excited, but Kate Walsh was only supposed to be on Grey’s Anatomy for a couple of episodes and now she has her own show!
Just saying!
Here is a video preview of Erin Karpluk on tonight’s Life Unexpected!

The View of Erin Karpluk!

>Today is big day for Canada’s Erin Karpluk! The star of Being Erica, which recently wrapped up season 2 in Canada, is going to be on The View. That’s right, THAT View!

In case you haven’t been reading American entertainment sites lately, the states are mad for Being Erica. This week, Entertainment Weekly gave the second season premiere an A- grade! And Soapnet just completed a marathon of the show’s first season, all in anticipation of the season two premiere tonight!
So why the hell should Canadians care? Do you really think CBC is dumb enough to let Erin Karpluk go? When was the last time anyone from the CBC was on the highly rated The View?
All of this bodes very well for a season three of Canada’s favorite time-traveler.
And if for some reason, season three doesn’t work out, I’m thinking that Erin should leave her resume somewhere on the View set. Wouldn’t she make an awesome co-host?

In case you missed it, here is the clip of Erin on today’s The View. Watch it and try to figure out how not to love her. Don’t waste too much time, it is impossible.

Preview: Being Erica Season Finale!

>(yes, I know this is one day early, but I wanted to give you a day to catch up on the episodes you’ve missed!)

Tuesday night marks an important night in Canadian television, after eleven strong episodes, CBC’s Being Erica ends it second season. It’s important because, the cult-hit still has not been renewed for a third season, so there is a chance that this could very well be the series finale for the little show that could!
Calm down, I have a feeling the show will be back, the negative press CBC would suffer from wouldn’t be worth it. Remember the whole Hockey Night in Canada fiasco? But I’m just trying to prepare you. It will also depend on how the network’s new Winter shows, Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town, 18-to-Life and Republic of Doyle, do in the ratings.
But what about Tuesday night’s finale? When comparing episodes of Being Erica, its hard to top last season’s final epside, Leo. With the duel story lines of the time-traveling Erica trying to save her dead brother and the firing of Dr. Tom, series creator Jana Sinyor, left the show’s audience speechless. And I can tell you that this season’s finale is no different.
When the episode shows up in my mailbox a couple of days, I was sworn to secrecy. With CBC’s threat of revealing pictures of me with hair, I can only tell you so much.
Things you should expect:
  • Someone leaves, and I don’t think they are coming back. Some people will be happy, others not so much!
  • Someone comes back! And yes, this is the secret that Erin Karpluk told me back in September, and it’s been killing me trying to keep my mouth shut since then! And no it’s not Leo. Do you know what? Screw it! It’s Cassidy (Anna Silk)! You remember her as Erica’s lesbian friend from last season! Shit, I’m going to get in so much trouble. Ahhh well, here is a picture to prove it!
  • Haven’t heard Kai’s song, Alien Like You enough? You’re in luck. You get to here it again, but in a completely new way! (Don’t forget, you can download the original for free!)
  • Remember that movie Labyrinth with Jennifer Connolley and David Bowie? Fans of that film will love the show’s final scenes.
  • In the episode, there are no sign of Erica’s dad, Jenny, Sam, Josh or Brent.
Then there are the show’s last five minutes. Wow. You guys will love it. I know you will. I can’t help but wonder if the scenes dark tones and colours are foreshadowing of what is to come. If the show does come back, Being Erica will have re-invented itself yet again. In world full of copycats, I truly believe this show is the closest thing to LOST we’ve seen yet. And if for some reason the show doesn’t come back. I think fans will be annoyed with such a big cliffhanger, but hopefully know that Erica, just like the rest of us, will be okay.
The season finale of Being Erica airs on Tuesday night. If you are a casual fan, tonight will be the night to watch. Let’s get those numbers up there!!!

EW + Erica=LOVE

>I know I don’t really have to do this because Being Erica  has already been renewed for a second season on CBC.  But, I was flipping through my Entertainment Weekly and I stumbled upon a little review for tonight’s Being Erica.

Check out what they had to say:
The single-gal dramedy has an embattled history (RIP Men in Treesand The Ex List)Men in Treesand The Ex List). But this Canadian find rises above it with an existential twist: Thirtysomething Erica Strange (the charming Erin Karpluk) gets a do-over on her most regretful moments thanks to a swarthy guardian-angel type. Tonight, as she ponders her relationship with her male best friend, she goes back to a mid-20s near-lesbian encounter. As always, Erica finds insight in what could be cliché territory: It’s not about hot girl-on-girl; it’s about how we decide who’s a friend and who’s more. AJennifer Armstrong

No, your eyes aren’t mistaken. That is indeed an A rating.
If I legally and literally marry both a TV show and a magazine, you would all be getting a “save the date.” card in the mail.  I would like to point out that the “lesbian friend” is Anna Silk, who I cannot give enough love to!  What? Not like you wouldn’t give endless love to a girl from the same hometown as you making it big!  Go Anna!

Thanks EW!
Being Erica airs tonight on the SoapNet in the states.

Season Finale Review: Being Erica says goodbye to everyone?

>This review is certified spoiler free!

I know I’m supposed to do reviews for shows on the day of the show, you know for familiarity sakes, but having just watched the season finale of Being Erica, I couldn’t wait one more day to share my thoughts with you. Plus, if I haven’t convinced you to watch this show yet, I wanted to give you a whole day to get caught up on the CBC series, which has it’s entire season online for free.

However, the episode entitled Leo, is very much a stand alone episode, so technically speaking previous viewings of Being Erica aren’t necessary….but that doesn’t excuse those of you haven’t at least watched one episode.

I’m sworn to secrecy about what actually happens in the episode (and can I just say threatening to destroy my TIVO is a little excessive), but their warning to me of much sadness in the episode should not be ignored, your biggest hint should be the title of the episode is also the name of Erica’s very much dead brother. Revisiting Erica’s biggest regret was emotionally exhausting, which very few series would be able to pull off with the class that this show does. Erica is given an impossible responsibility that will leave wondering, what would you do? I still don’t know.

Aside from emptying my tissue supply like I was a teenage boy, the episode also gets to some of the shows other big questions. (re: Dr. Tom) Sadly, it’s not what the hell his last name is. But I will say this, we do get our very first scene of Dr. Tom without Erica. Hmmm.

My only concern came near the end of the episode, when the show seemed to be wrapping everything up in a neat little bow, too neat. For amature tv watchers, you should know that this is never a good thing for a show that still hasn’t been officially renewed. Did the producers assume the show wouldn’t be renewed and didn’t want any lingering questions?

But then in the last 30 seconds of the show comes a cliffhanger so huge, even JR would be shocked. Again, I’m sworn to secrecy, but trust me, it’s good.

Please CBC, I know you are cutting everything else, but leave Erica alone. She is your shinning star in a line up that so badly needs Erica Strange, almost as bad as I do.

UPDATE:
I got an email from a very reliable source (the creator of the show) that Being Erica has indeed been picked up for a second 12 episode season! In her words: “enough to do a lot of great, juicy stuff. Look for it in September…” Great news!

The Hills meets SVU

>I think my obsession with Chelsea Handler is reaching near Erin Karpluk levels.

If you don’t watch Chelsea Lately (E!) you really should start because no matter what time a day I watch it, it’s one of the few talk shows that induces actual laugh out loud moments and not that annoying as shit LOLing. Real laughter.

Even more twitter!

>Twitter is taking over!
And guess who is one of the newest people to join…..

Erica Strange!

That’s right everyone’s favorite 30 year old neurotic time traveler from CBC’s cult hit Being Erica. (Yes, i’ve officially declared it a cult hit since none of you seem to want to start watching it! Did you learn nothing from Arrested Development!)

This is great news for Being Erica fans who don’t want to wait for 7 days to get our Erica fix. Plus, now that I’m on Twitter, I’m one step closer to befriending Erica or her portrayer Erin Karpluk!

What does it take to win Roll up the Rim?!

>
Are you as obsessed with Roll Up the Rim as the rest of Canada.

I’ve lost track of how many people have rolling counts of the rolled rims as their Facebook status. I haven’t been keeping track myself, but my success rate is about the same number of times Erin Karpluk has emailed me: zero.

So what does it take to win roll up the rim?

Here are some numbers for you:

  • Tim Horten’s has released 281.7 million contest cups
  • Canadians will roll up an average of 10 cups before May 1st
  • 35 cups have the top prize of the Toyota Venza
  • 15 of those cups are in Ontartio
  • One in 8,000,000 chance of winning the car in Canada!
  • In BC, you have a one in 5.9 million chance.
  • In Ontario, you have a one in 9.9 million chance.

Smell ya later LC!

>
Things I never thought would happen:

  • My hair would grow back over night
  • Meeting Erin Karpluk
  • Lauren Conrad leaves the Hills

Well one out of three ain’t bad.

In an interview with the LA Times , The Hill’s executive producer Liz Gately has confirmed that LC’s days on the show are numbered!

“It is bittersweet, but I understand why she is saying goodbye.
I will be forever grateful for all that she shared with us and
am incredibly proud of the television we made together.”

Lauren apparently will only have 10 more episodes until she goes to the big scripted reality show in the sky!!!! I honestly don’t know what my life will consist of if I can’t live vicariously through Lauren?! It seems like I have been watching her since she was in grade 12…oh wait, I have.

My life just got sadder.
