Bloggity Podcast!

>
Last week I hinted at doing something secret with CBC and I didn’t really want to talk about it, at least until I knew if it was actually going to happen.

Well it did happen and now I can finally tell you what’s going on.
Last week I taped my very first Podcast with CBC Radio 2! I did it to help with the launch of The Great Canadian Song Quest!
Very very cool.
You can hear it by clicking here. You can listen to the whole thing, or you can just skip to three-quarter mark when I take to the air-waves. It was a ton a fun and I hope I get asked back as the competition gets more intense and I continue to defend my choice of my couch, as the coolest place in Canada. Remember (showered) visitors are always welcome.
Make sure you check out the Great Canadian Song Quest site and nominate your favorite spots in Canada!

Nominations Open!

>
The nominating portion of CBC Radio 2′s Great Canadian Song Quest has finally opened. Check out their website and nominate you favorite spot in Canada and it might be immortalized in a song!

On second thought, I guess you could do that, but what’s the point? You already know where…rather, what is going to win.

Overshadowed by a couch?

>
For the last couple of weeks I have been doing a little campaigning for CBC’s Great Canadian Song Quest. Radio 2 is looking for the best places in Canada to write songs about, then they are going to make an album based on those locations, performed by Canadian artists. To sum up: Lots of Canada, Lots of Canadian Music, Canada.

My choices for the top places in Canada included The Annex in Toronto, Baddeck, NS, Field, BC and more importantly, My couch.
Yes, my couch. The same one that has been enjoyed by many of my friends and one over-zealous homeless person.
Well CBC has heard my pleas and now me and my couch are currently featured on the Great Canadian Song Question webpage! Ahhh just look at it! So comfy!
I’m totally going to win right? I mean how could Patrick Watson or Joel Plaskett not write a song about such a glorius creature. The couch, not me. Sickos.

Polaris: Listen More

>
All week long I’ve been talking about the Polaris Music Prize. And let’s be honest, many of you have no freaking clue what I’m talking about. But that’s fine, that’s what I’m here for. The Polaris Prize is a great opportunity for up and coming Canadian artists to show you the best they got. It also gives them a spotlight that they regretfully don’t get from Top 40 Radio.

On the night of the Polaris Gala all ten nominees performed and anyone that was there will tell you how amazing it was. Now everyone can listen to all ten performances by downloading the CBC Radio 3 Podcast!
Click here to download ten artists that you HAVE to have on your Ipod!

Shhhhh

I’m not really good at secrets, but I’m going to try.

Later on today, I’m going to be doing something with CBC, that I have never done before. I’m not sure when I can talk about it, but it should be out by the end of the week.
If I can wait that long!!!
Here is a hint….

Sneak Preview: Being Erica Season 2

>
The cool thing about being a blogger is that I never know what I am going to find in my mailbox. Sometimes it’s DVDs or movie passes. Other times, it’s CDs or books. Obviously the people who send me books, have never actually read my blog. But they are accepted none the less. Sadly video games have never come my way. hint, hint.

Well today I found perhaps the coolest thing ever in my mailbox:
The first episode of Being Erica’s second season!!!!
Of course, I watched it almost immediately. And while I’ve sworn on my Veronica Mars DVDs that I won’t divulge any of the shows big secrets, I feel like I have to share a couple of points, before my full review on Tuesday.
  • The show looks so much better than last season. Brighter, more colourful and better clothes.
  • Most importantly, they have updated the formerly-awful opening theme. The song remains, all the annoying door-opening does not.
  • The show’s writers obviously have been catching up on seasons of Lost, because Being Erica is turning into quite the mysterious show with lots of twists and turns.
  • Erin Karpluk can dance!. Especially on top of a bar.
  • If you think you know what Dr. Tom is and does, you are wrong. Dead wrong.
  • The episode was one of the series’ funniest and saddest.
UPDATE: I completely forgot to add, that the last minute of the season premiere, will BLOW YOUR MIND. Keep your eyes on your TV or you’ll miss it!
And I think that is all I can tell you for now, even that might be too much. Eek! Okay, I’m going to go watch it again….just to make sure.
Being Erica returns to CBC next Tuesday!

Song Suggestions

>
Last week, I talked about the Great Canadian Song Quest (website) with CBC Radio 2. You remember, it’s the contest that CBC is holding to find the best places in Canada to write songs about. Think “New York, New York”, but instead it could be “Shediac, Shediac.”

At the time, my list included, a neighborhood in Toronto, Baddeck and more importantly, my couch.
Now that the contest is in full swing, the blogs and twitter are all….well…a twitter, with people talking about what places should win. And since I’m pretty proud of my couch suggestion, I’ve been keeping an eye on the competition and so far, no one is really topping my favourite canadian spot. You hear that Patrick Watson? Better start writing it now.
If you are still thinking what places you want to nominate, here are some suggestions to help you come up with your own list.
1. Think of a place that is free.
2. Think of a place that is warm.
3. Think of a place that is awesome, even if you are by yourself.
4. Think of a place that you want to go to, even when you’re hung-over.
5. Think of a place that sort of smells like your friends who crash on it.
See, you’re thinking about my couch aren’t you? I knew it.

Perez meets Jian

>

Every since the whole Billy Bob “drama”, I can’t help but feel that CBC’s The Q is really bringing their A game. Not that they haven’t before, but they are certainly benefiting from their recent international exposure by bringing in a wide range of guests, guests that will surely start conversation across Canada.

Tomorrow will be no different.

Jian Ghomeshi will be interviewing the one and only Perez Hilton today. But wait, this isn’t your regular ET Canada-type segment with the self-proclaimed Gossip Gangster, according to Ghomeshi’s Twitter, Hilton will be on to talk about tastemaking & music from his perspective. Is it weird that I don’t know what tastemaking is? According to the radio-show host, “he’ll (Perez) be nicely counterbalanced by (musician) Nick Cave.”
The Q airs on CBC Radio 1 Monday to Friday at 10am and 10pm.

Five Free Episodes!

>
Lots of free stuff today!

I just found out that if you go to Itunes, you can download FIVE CBC Shows (click here to download) for FREE!!! The five shows are the season finales of CBC’s most popular shows, just in time to catch you up when their new seasons premiere starting next week.
The season finales included are:
Being Erica, Little Mosque on the Prairie, The Tudors, Heartland, and The Border!
Better yet, all the shows are available in Standard or High Definition!
side note: I’ve seen the first six episodes of the new Tudors season and they are soooooooooooooooooo good. More on that later!

Mini-Erica Update

>
By far the question I get asked about the most is Being Erica and when does it return for it’s second season.

So just to put it out there for all to see…
Being Erica returns to CBC on September 22nd and returns for it’s 2nd season on SoapNet in the States on January 20th, next year.
I feel like this is fair because if Canadians have to wait until next Summer for Friday Night Lights, it’s only fair the Americans have to wait longer for Being Erica. Although, I would be willing to negotiate.
Check out the trailer for season two right now on the CBC website!
