The Real Housewives of….Toronto.

I get asked all the time why I  choose to write solely about Canadian entertainment.  Besides my love of all things Canuck, it makes it really easy when it comes to not having to write about stupid things like The Real Housewives series.  It’s trash TV at its worst and has been producing terrible examples of the human species for years.  But like I said, they aren’t Canadian, so I’ve never had to write about it.

Until now.

It looks like The Real Housewives of Toronto is nearing production and may be invading our homes before we even have time to prepare for it by taking hourly antibacterial showers.

Louise Clark of Vancouver’s Lark Productions, has already said that they are looking into the possibility of bringin the Housewives series to Canada, but so far no deal has been nailed down.   But that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from churning.  According to a City TV story, cameras are getting ready to roll and Toronto neighborhoods Bridle Path, Rosedale and Forest Hill are all being scouted for filming.

So who would be the housewives?  Well no one is saying for sure but the same story mentions socialites Jessica Mulroney (Ben’s wife,) designer Kimberley Newport-Mimran and fashionista Stacey Kimel as potential housewives.

It should be no surprise that they are bringing the series to Canada, I guess the only shocking part is that they still haven’t called my mom, who admittedly can drink all of these ladies under the table.

George Stroumboulopoulos: Movie Star?

>
Any fans of The Hour out there?

It has just been announced that George Stroumboulopoulos is joining the cast of the ever-expanding movie, Score: The Hockey Musical.
So far some of the names attached to the movie include: Olivia Newton-John, Nelly Furtado, and Hawksley Workman.
Ben Mulroney and Rick Campanelli are calling their agents as we speak.

Free Music: Broken Social Scene

>
I’ve been struggling lately with finding some solid Canadian entertainment news. It is like there is some sort of giant vortex of non-Olympic news. I believe this is where Ben Mulroney lives.

But I am still trying to find morsels of Canadian tidbits. Like free music, for example.
I’m not that familiar with Broken Social Scene, but apparently they make hipsters cry out of their gigantic glasses, so they must be pretty good.
Anyway, you can download their new single ‘World Sick’ off of their website for free. The song will be appearing on their newest studio album, which will be released May 4th. That is six days before my birthday. (plan accordingly)

Peak Season Goes Global!

>
Dear World:

I’m sorry.
Mike.
Now you might ask what I’m apologizing for and that’s a fair question. I’m apologizing but in a few short weeks, the first season of MTV Canada’s Peak Season will be inflicted onto the world. It will start on VH1 and then move onto other MTV properties.
My concern is not that the show is bad, its actually quite fun and a suitable Canadian replacement for The City/The Hills. What I’m worried about is what the residents of Whistler will pass on to the rest of the world. As we all know, if you hook up with someone from Whistler, you’ll probably need to find a highly medicated cream and hot shower to clear anything up, ASAP.
So imagine what a whole season of watching these Whistler kids will do to the world? We are talking a swine flu-like epidemic of TV-STD proportions!! Us Canadians are immune to such diseases, we can thank Ben Mulroney for that. The Americans might think they are ready, after three seasons of Flavor of Love. But they haven’t met Tre and Lauren. These two are intense, and by intense I mean slutty.
Look out world, here they come!!

Wisdom Teeth: One last message

>
So today is the big day.

Today is the day when a “dentist” goes in, rips open my face, cuts through gums, muscles, bone and removes useless teeth. Some (more) normal people might call this getting your wisdom teeth removed.
With only a few hours to my surgery, here are some of my final thoughts.
1) I’m so excited to be done this freaking surgery. Mostly because I can’t stop watching people cringe their faces when I tell them about it. How do you think this is helpful or supportive?
2) I’ve decided to go with an oral surgeon that also doubles as a plastic surgeon. I’ve made it clear to him several times to stick to the teeth, but if for some reason I wake up looking like Ben Mulroney or Heidi Montag, know that I did not ask for it. And yes, I’ve already asked if he does hair transplants. One thing at a time.
3) I’ve emailed several people asking if they would go in my place. None of them have returned my emails. Please know that your names have been added to a list and you should be expecting smaller than normal Easter gifts. I mean business!
4) If I die, please remember that I want people to twitter the hell out of my funeral. I’ve always been fond of the hashtag #deadblogger. But if you feel like being more creative, I certainly won’t hold it against you….because I’ll be dead.
5) Mostly, to all the people I’ve yelled, cried at and generally been cranky to over the last couple of days. I’m sorry that you aren’t stronger and better people. You can’t start crying when I’m already crying. That doesn’t help anyone. And to the guy whose computer I threw out the window, I do feel bad about that. But it was PC, so I sorta did you a favour!
Phew….so stressed…..

More 'Dancing' to come!

>
Looks like it is time to haul out my tap shoes again!

So You Think You Can Dance Canada just announced two new audition dates for their newest season.
Leah Miller and Co. will checking out Halifax dancers on March 6th and Calgary area dancers on March 13th.
I’ve heard that both of these cities have had really low turn outs in the past, so if you haven’t auditioned yet, these are the places to do it. Your odds are probably a LOT better than in some of the bigger cities.
In case your wondering, the auditions for Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver have all already taken place.
For more information about the auditions, go to the So You Think You Can Dance Canada website!
Speaking of Leah, it was also announced that she has joined the Etalk team as a correspondent. Hmmm Ben Mulroney is on Etalk and hosted Canadian Idol and now Miller is doing the same. Someone at CTV went to the Synergy Weekend Workshop!

Television Event: Canada for Haiti

>

If you haven’t donated money to relief efforts in Haiti yet, it is never too late.
This Friday, Canada’s television networks are collaborating on an amazing television event. Canada for Haiti, will be a one-hour program featuring stories about Canadians in Haiti and how we can help the country. The program will air on CTV, CBC and Global TV.
The show will be hosted by CBC’s George Stroumboulopoulos of The Hour, Global’s Cheryl Hickey of ET Canada and CTV’s Ben Mulroney of etalk.
The Canada for Haiti special will give Canadians the opportunity to donate to a group of Canadian organizations doing work in Haiti. The groups featured are: Canadian Red Cross Society, Care Canada, Free the Children, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam Quebec, Plan Canada, Save the Children Canada, UNICEF Canada and World Vision Canada.
After Canada for Haiti, you can stayed tuned to the Canadian networks and watch the Hope for Haiti Now telethon, which is being hosted by George Clooney and will feature many of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Musician Wyclef Jean will also be host from New York, and CNN reporter Anderson Cooper is hosting from Haiti.
Proceeds from the telethon will be donated to Oxfam America, the Red Cross, UNICEF, Jean’s Yele Haiti foundation and Partners in Health, the largest non-governmental medical organization in Haiti. You’ll be able to purchase the night’s performances on Itunes as another way of raising funds. So far, the acts scheduled to appear include: Taylor Swift, Sheryl Crowe, Keith Urban, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Justin Timberlake and Stevie Wonder. Performing in New York are Wyclef Jean, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Shakira and Sting. The London lineup features Coldplay and a group performance by Bono, the Edge, Jay-Z and Rihanna.

The New Adventures of My Old Couch

>
YES! It’s all coming together now! My attempt at Canadian media domination has entered the next phase, all thanks to….my couch.

Dammit, I knew this thing would overshadow me. I feel like Ben Mulroney’s brother. And I don’t even think he has a brother, so that can’t be good.
(UPDATE: Apparently he has two brothers, which I think only furthers my point.)
My couch and I have made the front page of CBC Radio 2′s website!!! It’s all apart of the Great Canadian Song Quest (see the glamourous picture here), and I can’t help but feel that my couch is a true contender.
After admiring my attempt at being a centerfold, listen to the podcast that I also recorded with CBC Radio 2.
Happy Friday!!

Did you catch it?

>

So did you catch Sebastian Pigott on Being Erica on Tuesday night?
He played the mysterious new bartender, that seems to have a lot in common with Erica. If you are like me, he looked familiar but you just couldn’t place the actor.
Well, Pigott is probably best known as the Canadian Idol finalist with his brother Oliver in 2007. And now he seems to have gotten himself a regular job. Thus making him the second most successful Idol ever, we all know who the most successful is, don’t we?
This got me thinking about Canadian Idol. Did anyone miss it this summer? No seriously, stop laughing. Do you miss seeing Ben Mulroney on your screens? STOP LAUGHING!
I wonder if CTV is ever going to bring it back?

RIP MJ with CTV

>
So I don’t know if you know but Michael Jackson died.

Seriously. I’m not joking.
Well if you didn’t know, you soon will.
Later today will be the memorial for the King of Pop and CTV will be giving it’s viewers over 60 HOURS of coverage of the proceedings over it’s 10 different stations.
How is that possible you ask?  Well here is the rundown.
Traci Melchor, who is some-sort of Michael Jackson expert,  will be live directly from the Staples Center while ETALK’S Tanya Kim will continue to be forced to share screen time with Ben Mulroney and MuchMusic’s Leah Miller from CTV’s Queen Street headquarters in Toronto.
This (probable) over saturation will continue on CTV properties such as MuchMusic, CTV News Channel, CP24, CTV.ca and muchmusic.com!
Shockingly TSN will not be participating.
I don’t know if CTV is expecting you to flip through their stations and give them all ratings or what.  To me, it would make more sense for one station to have all the exclusive footage and have their ratings go through the roof.  But what the hell do I know.
Some of the acts expected to appear at the memorial include: Kobe Bryant; Mariah Carey; Andrae Crouch Choir; Berry Gordy; Jennifer Hudson; Shaheen Jafargholi (finalist on Britain’s Got Talent); Magic Johnson; Martin Luther King III; Bernice A. King; John Mayer; Lionel Richie; Smokey Robinson; Rev. Al Sharpton; Brooke Shields; Pastor Lucious Smith (family friend); Usher; and Stevie Wonder.
Macauley Culkin is apparently busy…working at Baskin Robins.
Today’s question: What does it take to be a Michael Jackson expert?
