Surprise, Surprise, Anna Silk gets naked on TV!

Remember the first time we met Anna Silk?  For most of you it was when she played a naked lesbian on Being Erica. In case you’ve forgotten, here’s the link.

But since then, she starred in her own very successful series called Lost Girl and seemed to have put her getting naked on CBC days behind her.  Literally.

Well that’s what I thought too, until I saw the promo for tonight’s all sorts-of-naked Republic of Doyle.  Anna guest stars as a real estate agent who is looking to seal the deal with Mr. Doyle…if you know what I mean!

In case you can’t wait for tonight’s show (or happen to be a little bit of a perv,) here are some more shots…which I grabbed for research purposes.  Jeez, the things I do for you guys.

You know if you think about, Allan Hawco writes, produces and stars in Republic of Doyle.  Not he has a tough job!

Lost Girl renewed!

I’ve got good news for all you Lost Girl fans out there.  Showcase has just announced that the sci-fi series has been renewed for a second season!

Since debuting in September to some of Showcases biggest numbers ever, it continued to attract more than 700,000 viewers all season long.  Which, in case you don’t know, is HUGE for a specialty channel.

“The record-breaking ratings and second season renewal are a great reward for a series that takes risks with unconventional storylines and a complex female heroine,” said Jay Firestone, Executive Producer.

It’s wonderful to see such an uncoventional Canadian series get a second season! Congrats!

Anna Silk found in Lost

Great news for Anna Silk.

The smokin’ hot Canadian actress just landed the lead in a new series called Lost Girl.
You’ll probably recognize Silk as the lesbian temptress on Being Erica or as the temperamental stewardess from those hilarious Nicorette ads.
Even though the show doesn’t debut until the fall, I already know the geeks are going to love it.

Lost Girl follows a supernatural seductress (Silk), a Succubus who feeds on the sexual energy of mortals…. There is much more to the show, but do I need to keep going?

Don’t you already want to watch it? “Sexual energy of mortals!” It sounds like Fringe meets The Red Shoe Diaries. I’m already in.
Lost Girl Debuts on Showcase this Fall.

Canada safest driver!

>
Everyone knows that my only ambition in life is to be the most famous person from my hometown of Fredericton, NB.

I already have to contend with Anna Silk, Tony LePage, Measha Brueggergosman, Catherine Karnes Munn, Kel from Survivor: Australia and baseball player Matt Stairs.
As if that wasn’t enough competition, I now have to deal with someone named Stewart Finnamore. Who is Stewart Finnamore you ask? He was just named the 2009 National Driver of the Year by the Canadian Trucking Alliance and Volvo Trucks Canada.
How the balls am I supposed to compete with that!? Seriously.
Apparently he receives the award as the safest truck driver in Canada, after logging more than six million collision-free kilometres over the past 40 years.
I think my record is 1200 kms.
Congrats Finnamore, I’ve always like a challenge.

Preview: Being Erica Season Finale!

>(yes, I know this is one day early, but I wanted to give you a day to catch up on the episodes you’ve missed!)

Tuesday night marks an important night in Canadian television, after eleven strong episodes, CBC’s Being Erica ends it second season. It’s important because, the cult-hit still has not been renewed for a third season, so there is a chance that this could very well be the series finale for the little show that could!
Calm down, I have a feeling the show will be back, the negative press CBC would suffer from wouldn’t be worth it. Remember the whole Hockey Night in Canada fiasco? But I’m just trying to prepare you. It will also depend on how the network’s new Winter shows, Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town, 18-to-Life and Republic of Doyle, do in the ratings.
But what about Tuesday night’s finale? When comparing episodes of Being Erica, its hard to top last season’s final epside, Leo. With the duel story lines of the time-traveling Erica trying to save her dead brother and the firing of Dr. Tom, series creator Jana Sinyor, left the show’s audience speechless. And I can tell you that this season’s finale is no different.
When the episode shows up in my mailbox a couple of days, I was sworn to secrecy. With CBC’s threat of revealing pictures of me with hair, I can only tell you so much.
Things you should expect:
  • Someone leaves, and I don’t think they are coming back. Some people will be happy, others not so much!
  • Someone comes back! And yes, this is the secret that Erin Karpluk told me back in September, and it’s been killing me trying to keep my mouth shut since then! And no it’s not Leo. Do you know what? Screw it! It’s Cassidy (Anna Silk)! You remember her as Erica’s lesbian friend from last season! Shit, I’m going to get in so much trouble. Ahhh well, here is a picture to prove it!
  • Haven’t heard Kai’s song, Alien Like You enough? You’re in luck. You get to here it again, but in a completely new way! (Don’t forget, you can download the original for free!)
  • Remember that movie Labyrinth with Jennifer Connolley and David Bowie? Fans of that film will love the show’s final scenes.
  • In the episode, there are no sign of Erica’s dad, Jenny, Sam, Josh or Brent.
Then there are the show’s last five minutes. Wow. You guys will love it. I know you will. I can’t help but wonder if the scenes dark tones and colours are foreshadowing of what is to come. If the show does come back, Being Erica will have re-invented itself yet again. In world full of copycats, I truly believe this show is the closest thing to LOST we’ve seen yet. And if for some reason the show doesn’t come back. I think fans will be annoyed with such a big cliffhanger, but hopefully know that Erica, just like the rest of us, will be okay.
The season finale of Being Erica airs on Tuesday night. If you are a casual fan, tonight will be the night to watch. Let’s get those numbers up there!!!

Gemini Awards are announced!

>

Finally a reason to watch the Geminis!

The nominees for the 24th annual awards that celebrate the best in Canadian Television were just announced and some pretty big shows racked up the nominations!
CTV’s Flashpoint is on top with a record 19 nominations. The Tudors (which isn’t canadian is it?) follows up with second place and 11 nominations. My favorite Being Erica picked up 9 nominations and so did Diamonds (CBC), Less Than Kind (City TV) and The Border (Global). Click here to see all the nominees.
I must give a special shout out to fellow Frederictonian Anna Silk! She is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Guest Role, Dramatic Series for her turn as Erica’s lesbian childhood friend on Being Erica. Like you could forget that episode.
The awards will be handed out right here in Calgary on November 14th! I’m shockingly alarmed by how excited I am for the Geminis this year. It’s like me saying I like CSI; it just seems so foreign to me!

Anna's Big Day!

>
Well isn’t this just spit on face face-tickle my toes fantastic!

My hometown paper, The Daily Gleaner,  just did a great piece on actress Anna Silk!
Coincidentally enough we are both from Fredericton and she is kicking my ass in my imaginary game of most Famous Frederictonian.
But that’s another story for another time.
You have definitely seen Anna do her thing before, probably as the crazy stewardess in the Nicorette commercials or maybe as Erica Strange’s hot lesbian friend on Being Erica
She is currently living in LA and sounds like she is doing great!
Congrats on the article Anna, click here to read it.
And just because I hate to hand over the spotlight completely, here’s the article the same paper did on me back at Christmas.

EW + Erica=LOVE

>I know I don’t really have to do this because Being Erica  has already been renewed for a second season on CBC.  But, I was flipping through my Entertainment Weekly and I stumbled upon a little review for tonight’s Being Erica.

Check out what they had to say:
The single-gal dramedy has an embattled history (RIP Men in Treesand The Ex List)Men in Treesand The Ex List). But this Canadian find rises above it with an existential twist: Thirtysomething Erica Strange (the charming Erin Karpluk) gets a do-over on her most regretful moments thanks to a swarthy guardian-angel type. Tonight, as she ponders her relationship with her male best friend, she goes back to a mid-20s near-lesbian encounter. As always, Erica finds insight in what could be cliché territory: It’s not about hot girl-on-girl; it’s about how we decide who’s a friend and who’s more. AJennifer Armstrong

No, your eyes aren’t mistaken. That is indeed an A rating.
If I legally and literally marry both a TV show and a magazine, you would all be getting a “save the date.” card in the mail.  I would like to point out that the “lesbian friend” is Anna Silk, who I cannot give enough love to!  What? Not like you wouldn’t give endless love to a girl from the same hometown as you making it big!  Go Anna!

Thanks EW!
Being Erica airs tonight on the SoapNet in the states.

Hot Lesbo Fredericton action on Being Erica! Sweet!

>Okay, I don’t know how many times I have to tell you to watch Being Erica but if you haven’t done it yet, you MUST MUST MUST do it tonight!!!!

Not only is the show still one of the most enjoyable shows on TV, it’s also still Canadian and still on the air…which in itself is a rarity. (RIP Street Cents)

Tonight’s episode has me really excited because of it’s pretty cool guest star: Anna Silk!

Mike’s Bloggity Blog readers will know that I’ve been rooting for Anna Silk for years because we are both from Fredericton and her mom, Ilkay Silk, was one of those amazing professors that defined my years as a University student.

Check out Anna’s most famous work here!

If that is not enough reason to watch Being Erica tonight on CBC, how about if I tell you that there is probably going to be some hot lesbo action in this episode. There! Does that make you happy?

You are all a bunch of perverts and I love it!

And once you are done falling in love with Being Erica and if you are sick of hot lesbo action, make sure you stick around for a new episode of The Week The Women Went. I’m not sure where they went, but I assume it was to go make out with Erica!

ps. Erin Karpluk, are you out there? Have you seen Mike’s Bloggity Blog? It loves you, hot lesbo action and all!

In concert: David Myles

>
Last night, my friend Nick and I went and checked out a fellow Frederictonian David Myles play at the Rivoli on Queen St. Even though we are from the same town and basically know all the same people, I have never seen David in concert, but I have always heard rave reviews. And I’m glad to say the reviews were fitting of what can be describes simply as a really great and entertaining show. Myles has a smooth personality that mixes with his music perfectly. My only disappointed that the show ended so quickly. What I really liked about his music was that it was just easy to listen to. You could still chat with your friends and at the same time enjoy a solid mix of folk/blues/acoustic. I can’t believe I had never seen him perform up until now.

Unfotunately this means that my quest to become the most famous person from Fredericton is getting harder and harder.

There is already Opera-superstar Meesha Brueggergosman, who has already had her own episode of Cribs and a couple of Junos to her name.

Then there is the star of the hilarious Nicorette/flight attendant commercials Anna Silk, who just guest-starred on The Ghost Whisper a couple of days ago.

Kel from Survivor: Australia (the beef jerky guy) calls Fredericton home.

Not to mention uber-talented actress Natalie Roy, who has already gotten on the cover of The Daily Gleaner

Oh well, at least I have David Myle‘s music to help me get through the hard times. Anyone else craving Beef Jerky?
