Alberta Travel tips: road trips on a budget

Sep 02, 2016

It’s the long weekend, which means for some, it’s a great time to pack the car and head out on an adventure. But with all of us tightening our belts lately, road trips can end up being quite expensive. I was on Global this week to talk about some great road trip ideas that won’t break the bank.

Head South:

The mountains have been packed all summer.
Head elsewhere and the rates drop drastically.

I did a quick search and there’s a hotel bunch of great hotels with fantastic prices in the Lethbridge area. The Lethbridge Lodge is $99 this weekend. If the weather isn’t great, it has a fantastic indoor pool…and a bar for the parents right by the pool. It’s like going to the tropics without leaving Alberta.

Use Park Canada’s Learn to Camp app to find the perfect place to camp.
It also includes an interactive camping checklist to help you keep track of what you need, what you have and what you’ve packed. And recipes for simple and tasty breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks that you can cook at your campsite. You’ll be able to save money by not wasting food!

Do you already get discounts?

I know a lot of Alberta are members of AMA, which comes with some pretty good discounts for members. Check out out their website and plan your trip that way.
Some places you can get discounts include:
-Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump Interpretive Centre.
-Royal Tyrrell Museum
-Frank Slide Interpretive Centre

Just go to the Torrington Gopher Museum already.

Torrington 4

Admission is only $2 and you’ve talked about going. Now’s the time.
It’s strange, fun and unforgettable.
